Neighbor,

Your pet has been seen wandering the neighborhood unleashed. I am contacting you as a friendly reminder that the city of Des Moines has leash and other ordinances requiring that you maintain control of your animal. Even though you believe your dog is friendly, there are several reasons why it is important to keep your pet inside your house or yard:

· Your pet’s safety (being hit by a car, people defending themself, etc)

· The guilt someone will have if they hit your pet

· Disgusting animal waste in your neighbor’s yard

· Many people who walk the neighborhood are afraid of any loose dog they come across

· There is a fine

· Animal calls are the 2nd most common type of call to police for North Hill, wasting scarce resources

It is much better if we can resolve this without involving animal control. Please take more responsibility with your pet. Assistance may be available from your neighbors or the North Hill Community Club if you need help patching a fence or need ideas on how to keep your pet safe. If you work long hours away from home, there are pet services in this area that can help by letting your pet out or walk them mid day. Here are web, email, and a phone number for animal control if you have more detailed questions.
