1.System Description:

a.The fire protection system shall be installed in accordance with NFPA 13 and NFPA 14, and comply with NFPA 24, NFPA 72, NFPA 291 and NFPA 241 as applicable.

b.Hydraulically calculate the system. A 10 psi safety factor shall be applied between the available municipal water supply curve and the total system demand point.

c.The fire protection work shall be performed by an experienced firm regularly engaged in the installation of fire protection sprinkler systems. The Contractor shall have a technician with a minimum NICET Level III Certification develop shop drawings using a pipe layout that will provide the appropriate water density and head coverage.

d.The maximum velocity of flow shall not exceed 20 ft./Sec.

e.All new sprinkler systems and those affected by renovation, including those fed from domestic piping, shall be tied into the building fire alarm system utilizing flow and tamer switches, regardless of the quantity of heads.

2.Fire Department Connection (FDC):

a.Cast brass, metal caps, two-way lug swivel inlets with drop clappers. Raised letter escutcheon labeled "Automatic Sprinkler".

b.2-1/2 in. x 2-1/2 in. x 4 in..

c.2-1/2 in. NST hose threads shall match those in use by the City of Rochester Fire Department.

d.Make: Badger-Powhatan, Crocker-Standard, Elkhart.

3.Sprinkler Equipment:

a.Alarm Check Valve and Trim: GEM F2001, Reliable Model E, Viking Model G-1.

b.Dry Pipe Valve and Trim: GEM F302, Reliable Model D, Viking Model E.

c.Air Compressor: ASME tank sized to suit application.

1)Elmglo, Gast.

d.Sprinklers:

1)Brass or bronze, 1/2 in. orifice, 1/2 in. NPT, 165o ordinary temperature classification, 286oF sprinklers in mechanical, electrical and elevator rooms.

2)SSP and SSU: GEM F950, Reliable Model G, Viking Model M.

3)Horizontal Sidewall: GEM F950/Q-46, Reliable Model G/HSW-1, Viking Model M.

4)Quick Response: GEM FR-1, Reliable Mod. GFR, Viking Model M Microfast.

e.Sprinkler Cabinet: GEM F740, Reliable Model A1, Viking.

4.Gauges:

a.Case anodized aluminum, glass lens, copper alloy tube, 1/4 in. connections, ANSI B40.1, Grade B 0-300 psi.

5.Alarm Equipment:

a.Water Gong: GEM F630, Reliable Model C, Viking Model F-1.

b.Waterflow Switch: 24 VDC, SPDT Contacts, Potter Electric, Autocall.

c.Tamper Switches: 24 VDC, SPDT, Potter-Electric Model OSYSU-A (OS&Y Valves) Model PIVSU-A (Post-Indicator Valves).
