Having Fun with Borders

Adding a border to your image adds a creative touch. We have been adding a plain

border in the last 3 lessons.

This tutorial will show you how to a different texture, inner bevel and drop shadow.

Place your supplies in the My Documents folder.

1.  Open the Fairyelf Image

2.  Add a Raster layer

3. Click on the Dropper Tool Border 4

Pick a light background color for your image

Tip – Remember Left click will add this add your background color in the Material Palette

4. Click on the flood fill tool Border 7

Make sure that you are on Raster 2. It will be highlighted in Blue.

With your flood fill tool over the image, click and it will fill the raster with the color

This is what your layer palette should look like

5. Move the Raster 2 layer to the bottom. You can either drag it or go to Layers, Arrange, Move Down

Now we are going to have some fun with add the border and using different effects.

6.  Go to Image – Add Border

7.  Set the border properties to Pixel size 10, make sure that Symmetric box is checked

8.  Let’s pick a different color for the border

Image 13. Click on the color and it will open up the color information. Image 14

Change the Red, Green and Blue numbers to match mine

9. Click on your magic wand tool 17 (Looks like a “magic wand that

the wizards use.

10..With your magic wand using these settings Image 17 A, Click on the Blue Border.

11.  When you click on the blue border you will see “marching ants”

12  Go to Effects, Refelctions Effects Image 20

13  , Kaleidoscope and use these settings

14.  Let’s add an Inner Bevel. Go to Effects – 3D Effects – Inner Beverl

15.  Let’s look at the Inner Bevel settings. Click on the drop down box – choose 8.

Make sure that all the settings in the property box match these

Click on the color and change to these settings:

Click Ok. If we didn’t add anything else, this would be a great effect for the border.

We are going to add a drop shadow Image Border Drop

Change the color by clicking on the color box and change the settings

Use these settings – Image 26 –

Let’s apply another drop shadow with the same settings only change the Horizontal and Vertical to -2.

Apply

Selections – Select None. The marching ants will be gone.

Now let’s add our Text.

Go to Layers – New Raster Layer - Image 28

Click on the Text tool - Border 29

We are going to create Floating Text. Make sure that the text properties are

set to this:

Enter your text.

Look at your Layer Properties

With your mover tool IMAGE 31, move your text into place.

Go to Effects – 3D Effects – Drop Shadow with these settings

Selections – Select None

Go to Layers – Merge – Merge All Flatten

Save your image as a .jpeg using the wizard.

REVIEW – Download these three tubes and using different Effects on your border by

using the Reflection Effects – Kaleidoscope. Please post your image and let us know

what setting you used to obtain your effect.
