Guidelines for Adult INTOPS 2015

Adult INTOPS is a fantastic opportunity to come and find out more about the opportunities available to adult members of Girlguiding. These guidelines indicate roles available and the skills required – a passion for international travel is preferable and if you have this but are not sure about your qualifications, come along to adult INTOPS and talk to us.

All candidates must be active members of Girlguiding and must be 18 years or older at time of travel.

For trip leadership roles, we are looking for adults with the right experience and qualifications to take part in these trips, however candidates working towards their qualifications eg. who have nearly completed their Camp License are encouraged to come forward. Please remember we would encourage pre-formed teams or individuals to apply.

The 2016 opportunities hope to include:

  • 1 trip to an International camp in Europe – with 1 Leader, 2 Assistant Leaders and 15 - 20 girls
  • 1 World Centre trip – with 1 Leader, an Assistant Leader and 6 girls
  • The Ghana Project team – 2 Leaders, and 10 adult team members aged between 18 and 30.
  • Senior Section Centenary Celebrations staff (wide game/jail break)

Possible additional trips (subject to ratification with Girlguiding Scotland, Guiding Development and Executive):

  • 1 Senior Section Centenary Trip (to participate in the wide game/jail break) – with 1 Leader, 2 Assistant Leaders and up to 30 girls.
  • 1 UK International Jamboree Trip – with 1 Leader, 4 Assistant Leaders and up to 30 girls.

UK, European, World Centre and Senior Section Centenary Trip Leaders must have/be able to:

  • Guide Camp Licence or Senior Section Camp Licence (or be willing to undertake this prior to summer 2015.)
  • Sound camping skills (Jamboree Trips only)
  • Previous experience of travelling abroad (preferably with Guiding)
  • Adapt to a range of circumstances
  • Demonstrate good communication and leadership skills.
  • Be caring and approachable.
  • Have good stamina and be able to cope well in changing situations/under pressure (we like to name this skill unflappability!)

UK, European, World Centre and Senior Section Centenary Trip Assistant Leaders must have/be able to:

  • Fair camping skills.
  • Experience of travel abroad maybe an advantage, but is not essential for this role.
  • 1 of the 2 Assistants must hold the Girlguiding First Response (or comparable qualification).
  • Adapt to a range of circumstances
  • Demonstrate good communication and leadership skills.
  • Be caring and approachable.
  • Have good stamina and be able to cope well in changing situations/under pressure. (we like to name this skill unflappability!)

Ghana Team Leaders should have/be able to:

  • Previous experience of Girlguiding Scotland Building Links Ghana Project.
  • Experience or willingness to participate in trainers/Peer education training
  • Lead a team of Adults
  • Adapt to a range of circumstances
  • Demonstrate good communication and leadership skills
  • Be caring and approachable
  • Have good stamina and be able to cope well in changing situations/under pressure (we like to name this skill unflappability!)

Ghana Team Members should be able to:

  • Work as part of a small team
  • Take direction from Adult group Leaders
  • Adapt to a range of circumstances
  • Demonstrate good communication skills
  • Be caring and approachable.
  • Have good stamina and be able to cope well in changing situations/under pressure(we like to name this skill unflappability!)

Senior Section Centenary Event Staff (wide game/jail break) should be able to:

  • Demonstrate an enthusiasm for the Senior Section Centenary
  • Develop opportunities for transition from Guides to Senior Section
  • Work as part of a small team
  • Take direction from Adult group Leaders
  • Adapt to a range of circumstances
  • Demonstrate good communication skills
  • Be caring and approachable.
  • Have good stamina and be able to cope well in changing situations/under pressure(we like to name this skill unflappability!)
