Steps for solving a ratio or proportion problem:

1)Find the ratio

2)Determine if it is part to part or part to whole.

3)Find what the question is looking for:

If asking to set up a proportion make sure the ratios are the same. Makes sure they are both part to part or part to whole. ( if needing to get a part to whole relationship add up the two ratios) Then solve.

If asking for a unit rate divide and find the amount for one. Then solve.
