Greene County Meeting Minutes

March 11, 2007

Meeting called to order at 5:14 p.m.

Present- 41 Greene Co. Members, 1 Putnam Co. Member and 10 guests for a total of 52.

Minutes from February were read.

Charlie W. made motion to approve, Dave P. second, minutes approved as read.

LINC report:

  • ABATE Kids Day at the Statehouse, Feb. 22, 2007, 15-20 kids attended. Spoke with Governor and Sec. of Education, Dr. Sue Ellen Reed. Discussion covered history and State House of Indiana.
  • HB 1205- ROW Legislation, HB 1318- Licensing of mopeds & scooters and SB477 have all died in committee.
  • Discussed HR 1076 & S616, amendments to HIPAA which was passed in 1996, these will close loopholes that allow insurance providers to deny benefits in an accident because a motorcycle was involved. Encouraged membership to follow and ask our Representatives to support HR 1076 and S616.
  • Discussed HB 1380- Major Moves Construction Fund (30 Million a year for the next 2 years) Interest money from fund will assist with local road projects. Members encouraged to follow this bill and contact local officials regarding spending of monies.
  • Lori asked for volunteers, to help over the next 2 months, to set up a phone tree for alerting members when quick action is needed regarding LINC issues.

Treasurers report:

Ending bal. in Feb.-$98.25 Additions- $75 in anonymous donation, $47 Debra Polanco and $47 Member donation for a total of $169 in additions. Showing new balance of $267.25

Greene Co. Bash Committee report:

  • Joan asked for volunteers to run the Rodeo, run and organize the ride, run and organize the children’s daytime games and looking for babysitters to help with the children during evening hours. Sign up sheets available after the meeting. Flyers made available for membership to post throughout the region.
  • Sam has waiver (provided by Mike Wonder) for parents to sign when allowing children to take plane rides.

Old Business:

  • Ridge Runners Romp will be back at Paintball Valley in Gnaw Bone, May 11th, 12th & 13th.
  • Putnam Co. is operating, being led by a committee headed up by Gino at Present. They expect to be alternating their mtg. site btwn. Moores (March) and the Eagles (April), the 3rd Saturday of the month.
  • Boogie clean up date reminder.
  • Action item from last mtg. discussed.
  1. LINC items were sent via email.
  2. Links on website are still a problem, continuing effort to fix these.
  3. Gr. Co. Sheriff did receive his membership card and HM magazine.
  4. Certificates and Plaques prepared for presentation.
  5. Per David, State office will provide a sanitized version of membership listing, respecting privacy act. Region Six will be the test vehicle for this approach to boost membership participation and reactivating inactive members.
  • Certificates presented to recipients for 2006.

New Business:

  • Ollie’s Ride- Owen Co’s ABATE sanctioned event, May 26th. Ride for Fallen Brothers & Sisters. $20 gets a name put on the shirt and you will receive a shirt at the event. Members encouraged to support.
  • Eric Peterson made a motion for Gr. Co. to pay $35 per 100 post cards sent by the State office to active/inactive members to boost participation. Bonnie K. second. Motion carried.
  • Debbie D. made a motion for Gr. Co. to pay $41.38 for frames used for certificates. Charlie W., second. Motion carried.
  • Awards Presentation announced, March 20th at 7:00 p.m. at the Bloomfield Legion Post 196. Membership encouraged to attend.
  • Newspaper article ran in Linton Daily Citizen this past week, “What Is ABATE?” to raise local public awareness. Bloomfield Free Press will run article in conjunction with pictures from Awards Presentation. Bonnie has contacted both newspapers about running meeting announcements monthly.

Region Report:

  • Mayor’s Ride, Monroe Co. sanctioned event, Sunday, May 20th. Rain or shine. Bike Show. Ends at the Airport. $15 a person/ $20 a couple.
  • Still looking for a MC Safety training site. Checking out possibilities in Putnam Co. and Bloomington.
  • Ridge Runners Romp, $10 a person if you’re a member/ $15 for nonmember. They are selling 50 tee shirts that are coming from the State office. Camping sites and cabins available. Family friendly event.
  • Region Shirts. We are still looking for a design. Time is running short; we need a decision made so shirts can be made in time to be available for our events coming up in May.

Announcements:

Sam went over hand signals and riding etiquette, it has also been provided by email to membership.

ABATE also has BRC and ERC and Off-road training available for kids. Local accident involving a 12 yr. old boy on a four wheeler was discussed. Officers encouraged spreading the word to help reduce chances of accidents happening like this.

David P., Region Rep., reminded members to use websites provided at last meeting to report poor road conditions in anticipation of riding season.
