STUDENT BENEFITS AND GRANTS
Student benefits and grants made available by the Politecnico for the AY 2012/2013 are:
- study grants
- supplements to study grants for participation in international mobility programmes
- subsidised accommodation service
- catering service for students eligible for/beneficiaries of study grants.
PREREQUISITES FOR ASSIGNMENT OF BENEFITS: ENROLMENT
Remember that assignment of student benefits and grants presupposes that you have completed enrolment for the AY 2012/2013.
Bear in mind that you can apply also before having formalised enrolment at the Politecnico for the academic year 2012/2013, however, assignment of benefits is subject to completion of enrolment within the official deadlines established by the University (for details see main deadlines at
REQUISITES FOR ACCESS TO SBG BENEFITS
Before submitting the application for assignment of SBG benefits check if you meet the economic and merit requisites required by the competition call.
WARNING: Students who enrol in the first year of Bachelor of Science or single cycle Master of Science programmes must pass the entrance test for programmes without Additional Educational Requirements - OFA (TOL OFA, TEST OFA, total OFA, drawing OFA, mathematics OFA).

CREDIT BONUS
If you have difficulty in reaching the minimum number of credits required by the call, in the presence of certain requisites, you can use a "credit bonus" to bridge any gaps between the minimum number of credits required by the call and credits actually acquired.

You must submit the application no later than 3 September 2012.
HOW TO APPLY
If you meet the requisites of the Competition Call, you can apply by completing the on-line form available at
WARNING: before “confirming” the on-line application make sure it has been completed correctly, since once you click the “confirm” button you can no longer change the contents.
Following confirmation of the application, you will receive, at the e-mail address provided during registration, a summary of the content of your application.
THERE IS NO NEED TO SEND/SUBMIT A PAPER COPY OF THE APPLICATION TO THE STUDENT BENEFITS AND GRANTS AND INTERNATIONAL MOBILITY SERVICE. Remember, however, to send to the Student Benefits and Grants and International Mobility Service the ISEEU/ISPEU certification if you used as CAAF (Authorised Tax Assistance Centre) NOT affiliated with the Politecnico.
To facilitate the presentation of applications, the following are available:
- a telephone help desk (tel.: +39 02.2399.4471 – 02.2399.4472 –02.2399.4473 - 02.2399.4474 - 02.23992268) operative from Monday to Friday, 9.30 a.m. - 12.30 p.m.;
- a number of internet-connected workstations in the offices at no. 42 Via Golgi that can be used to complete the on-line application;
- an e-mail service;
- acounter service in the offices at no. 42 Via Golgi operative from Monday to Friday, 9.30 a.m. - 12.30 p.m.

STUDY GRANTS
The study grant is a sum of money paid in 2 instalments, assigned to students who meet the merit and income requisites prescribed by the Competition Call having duly filed an application. The amount of the study grant varies according to financial status and origin of the student (“at home”, “commuting” or “away from home”).
To prove the "away from home" status, one of the following must be submitted to the Student Benefits and Grants and International Mobility Service by no later than 15 October 2012:
- copy of the duly registered rental agreement made out in the your name or in the name of one of your parents;
- certificate or other tax-valid document in relation to payment of rent in the case of students domiciled at colleges, student residences or boarding schools not managed by the Politecnico di Milano.
Failure to submit this documentation will result in you being considered as commuting.
If you are a foreign student, you will nevertheless be considered “away from home”, regardless of the place of residence in Italy, unless the student's family resides in Italy.

PUBLICATION OF RANKINGS
You can see your position in the provisional ranking at from 8 October 2012.
You can appeal against the rankings no later than 10 days from the date of publication. Appeals must be made in writing, signed and must be accompanied by all documentation suitable for justifying your grounds.
Once the examination of appeals has been completed by the appropriate administration, you can see your position in the final ranking at from 31 October 2012.
PAYMENT OF STUDY GRANTS
The study grant will be paid in two instalments, in particular:
the first instalment will be paid by 23 November 2012;
the second instalment will be paid as follows:
- by 30 April 2013 for students who during the first examination session (February-March 2013) attain the number of credits required for payment of the second instalment;
- by 31 October 2013 for students who attain the number of credits required for payment of the second instalment by 10 August 2013.
You can decide how you want to receive payment of the grant via the application “identification of payment procedures” available in personalised on-line services.

INTERNATIONAL MOBILITY SUPPLEMENTS
If you enrol for the first year of Master of Science programmes and, for the academic 2012/2013, you are the beneficiary or eligible non-beneficiary of a student grant, you can benefit from a supplement of the same for participation in international mobility programmes.
AMOUNT OF CONTRIBUTION
The contribution is for 550 euros per month for the duration of the stay abroad, up to a maximum of 10 months. The value of any further contributions granted with European Union funds, or funds from other public or private parties, or following bilateral agreements – even if not Community-related - is deducted from this amount. You can also apply to the Student Benefits and Grants and International Mobility Service for reimbursement of return travel costs up to a value of 150 euros (for European countries) and up to 500 euros (for non-European countries). Remember to submit to the Student Benefits and Grants and International Mobility Service, not later than 30 days after returning from the mobility period, the return tickets for which you want to obtain a refund.
WARNING: Throughout the entire period of stay abroad you cannot use the catering service at the subsidised rate. This prohibition also applies if - during the period of study abroad - you return to Italy for whatever reason (e.g. for exams, Christmas holidays, etc.).

SUBSIDISED ACCOMMODATION SERVICE
If you are a student AWAY FROM HOME, in possession of merit and income requirements prescribed by the Call, you may request accommodation at a subsidised rate in one of the Politecnico residences (

COST OF ACCOMMODATION
If you are a student benefiting from a grant, from the amount of the grant for the AY 2012/2013 an amount as a flat rate contribution to the cost of the accommodation will be deducted. As an example, bear in mind that in 2011/2012 the deduction amounted to euro 2,250.
WARNING: The deduction will be reduced proportionately if the student uses the accommodation for a number of months less than the entire academic year (e.g. allocation of accommodation at later dates, participation in international mobility programmes, etc.).
If, on the other hand, you are an eligible student but not beneficiary of a grant for the AY 2012/2013 you must pay a monthly rent equal to 1/11 of the deduction applied to students benefiting from grants.
Finally, if you are a student benefiting from a grant and eligible but not benefiting from subsidised accommodation you must pay monthly rent corresponding to the non-subsidised rate.

PUBLICATION OF RANKINGS
If you are a student enrolled in the first year of Bachelor of Science and single-cycle Master of Science programmes, you can see your ranking position at 18 September 2012.
If you are a student enrolled in the first year Master of Science programmes, you can see your ranking position at 24 September 2012.
WARNING: you will be considered as having renounced if you do not accept the accommodation within 3 days of the assignment notification. In this case, the accommodation will automatically be assigned to the next student in the ranking.
Politecnico di Milano residences will be closed from 1 to 31 August 2013.

SUBSIDISED CATERING SERVICE
If you are the beneficiary or eligible non-beneficiary of a student grant for the AY 2012/2013, you are entitled to use the subsidised catering service. You will therefore be given, at the Student Benefits and Grants counter, an Electronic Card “topped up” with “daily” meal vouchers which you can use in canteens affiliated with the Politecnico (for a list of affiliated canteens see the website (
DURATION OF THE SERVICE
For all students enrolled in the first years of Bachelor of Science and single cycle Master of Science programmes, the catering service will be functioning from 16 November 2012 to 15 November 2013.
The catering service will be suspended for the entire month of August 2013.
USE OF THE ELECTRONIC CARD
Meal vouchers "topped up" on the card must be used in the course of the day. If you do not use them they will be lost and you cannot accumulate them with those you will use on subsequent days.
Should you take part in international mobility programmes, throughout the entire period of stay abroad, you cannot use the subsidised catering service. This prohibition also applies if - during the period of study abroad - you return to Italy for whatever reason (e.g. for exams, Christmas holidays, etc.).
AMOUNTS ON THE ELECTRONIC CARD
The value of the meal voucher varies according to your status (beneficiary of a grant or only eligible but not beneficiary) and the fact that you are away from home, commuting or at home.
