REGULAR MEETING MINUTES

May 6, 2012

A regular meeting of the Greater Manassas Baseball League Board of Directors was held at the Manassas City Police Station on Fairview Avenue in Manassas, VA on the above date with the following attendees:

Attending Board Members: Mary Clarke, Derek Cogar, Kevin Jennings, Wendy Jennings, Clayton Miller (8:15pm), John Morris, Kim Payne, Chris Sauder, Kendra Sauder, Mark Stevens, Jason Stubler (7:45pm), BJ Sullins, Greg Sutherland, Ray Walker.

Absent Board Members: Robert Bell, Lisa Harris, Jimi Weaver.

Attendees: Lou LePore, Dave Cogar, Donald Phipps, Brian Foster, John Petro, Douglas Dick, Wayne Dumais.

President Morris called the meeting to order at 7:05 pm

EXECUTIVE REPORTS

President’s Report: No report.

Vice President’s Report – Baseball/Softball: No report.

Secretary’s Report: Written report provided. Motion to approve by Mary Clarke, seconded by Mark Stevens. Motion carried.

Treasurer’s Report: Written report provided. Motion to approve by Mary Clarke, seconded by Mark Stevens. Motion carried.

NEW BUSINESS

GUEST SPEAKER: Lou Lepore Stonewall Jackson High School Head Coach met with the league. Discussed high school offering at no fee’s player’s clinics. He wants to get more involved in Youth baseball School does have Summer and Fall season, can offer players for clinics. Even can host specialty clinics like Catchers/Pitchers? The school may be interested in post-HS play in SR Babe Ruth Program.

VP ELECTIONS: Kevin Jennings was nominated and approved to be VP of the league as John Morris became President when our previous president Dave Cogar moved onto being District 8 Baseball Commissioner.

COACH APPROVALS: Blastball – Wendy Cox, Chenoa Miller were approved as coaches. Tee Ball Tournament Team – Doug Dick and John Petro were approved to Manage/Assist the Tee Ball tournament team.

CHAIRMAN’S REPORTS:

BYLAWS AND RULES COMMITTEE: No report.

BACKGROUND CERTIFICATION COMMITTEE: No report.

REGISTRAR: No Report

PROTEST COMMITTEE: Nothing to report

TOURNAMENTS:

Kevin Jennings reported that he would like to host an invitational softball tournament late Summer for softball. MDT we have registrations now in every division since it reopened. Mary Clarke agreed to be 8U Rookie Commissioner, with BJ Sullins and John Petro as assistants.

TOURNAMENT TEAMS DIRECTOR: No report.

SPONSORSHIP: Motion made by BJ to provide Chick Fil A with SIGN ONLY $200 for Spring/Fall to get them in the door as a full time sponsor. Seconded by Kevin. Discussion took place as to the additional items they are willing to provide to the league in terms of fundraising to help offset the cost. Motion carried.

GAMES AND PRACTICE SCHEDULER: Dave will continue thru this season to help with Schedule while he cross-trains John.

UMPIRE IN CHIEF: No report.

SNACKBAR COORDINATOR: Exhaust Fan broken needs to be fixed, Greg to take a look at it. Reduce volunteers to 2 only each time vs. 3.

EQUIPMENT – PROCUREMENT/DISTRIBUTION: Softball catchers gear is needed.

MAINTENANCE AND GROUNDS OPERATIONS: No report.

PUBLICITY AND OPENING DAY: Need to confirm who is handling trophies – Tball, All-Star, Division Champ, and EOS Tournament.

LONG RANGE PLANNING / GRANTS: No report.

FUNDRAISING: 959 books sold, 822 returned, 355 missing. BJ working to get books returned. Chevy Raffle made $1780.

Scholarships: No report.

CLINICS: No report.

SOFTBALL – Issues surfaced about two 14u teams. Parents seem to be the problem, the league is monitoring those games.

CLOSING/Round Table:
Summer Ball Program – Wayne Dumais was looking into possible interest to put together a summer program and will report back to Board.

THANKS - Dave Cogar gave GMBL 18 years of service as a board member volunteer. We wish him the best in his new role as District 8 Baseball Commissioner. Thanks!
