Winai Somprasong[1] Srunya Vajarodhaya[2] Kongkanda chayamarit[3]

Abstract

The Andrographinae is one of the famous subtribes in the Tribe Ruelliae (Acanthaceae). The most famous genera in this subtribe are Andrographis Wall ex Nees, Graphandra Imlay, Gymnostachyum Nees and Phlogacanthus Nees, sensu Scotland (2000). The study aims to collect and revise the species list for the Flora of Thailand. The overview characters of them comprise corolla imbricate or ascending cochlear aestivation; stamen 2; ovules 6 – many, capsule extending to the base, bearing 6 ovules – many; pollen tricolporate with distinct aperture margin. The differentin morphological characters among them are discussed as follows. Firstly, the one that has the corolla sub-equally 5-lobed; sepal 4 or 5 (Andrographis, Grapahndra, Phlogacanthus) and secondly, the others that have the corolla bilabiate; sepal 5 (Gymnostachyum). The study shows that a number of them are enumerated with 26 species, Andrographis (2), Grapahndra (1), Gymnostachyum (8), and Phlogacanthus (15). The key to genera and species and the checklist are provided.

Abstract

PeristropheNees is one of a small genus in the subtribe Justiciinae, tribe Ruelliae (Acanthaceae). Four species, areenumerated by Hansen (1985). The study aimsat collecting and determining the species list for a revision of the Thai floras. The diagnostic characters consist of inflorescence and usually2 small bracteoles, smaller than calyx; corolla tube long, slender, often twisted through 180 degree; limb deeply bilabiate; upper lip oblong, emarginate; lower lip ovate, the lobes imbricate in bud or ascending cochlear aestivation; stamens 2, inserted in the corolla tube; ovules 4; capsule oblong, clavate with a solid stalk at the base; seeds 4, flattened; pollen graintricolporate with longitudinal ribs. The comparative morphological characters among them are discussed. The one that the inflorescence is glandular-pubescent or viscid, and bracteoles are longer than the calyx [P. lanceolaria (Roxb.) Nees]. The others possess inflorescences which are not glandular-pubescent or viscid, and bracteoles are smaller than the calyx [P. acuminate Nees, P. bivalvis (L.) Merr., and P. parviflora Craib]. The key to the species and the checklist are provided.
