The Graduate Assistant will directly assist Equity & Diversity Center staff in the areas of diversity and social justice related programming and general operation. The Center will serve all underrepresented groups, with special attention to educating the campus community about issues related to: women, LGBTQ, people of color, religious groups, veterans, international people, people with disabilities, social class and age.

The position will work an average of 20 hours per week, Monday through Friday, and may include some evening and weekend hours. The successful candidate for this position will be appointed for the full 2010-2011 academic year. The stipend will be $10,000 for the year, plus graduate tuition assistance.

Job Description

The Graduate Assistant willassist the Equity & Diversity Center staff daily with the following:

  • Planning and implementing department-sponsored activities throughout the academic year to educate the campus community about issues related to: women, LGBTQ, people of color, religious groups, veterans, international people, people with disabilities, social class and age
  • Collaborate and communicate with other departments and organizations that are developing programs
  • Training and development of the Safe Zone Ally Program
  • Support ongoing development of LGBTQ Dakota Campus Alliance program
  • Training related to other diversity or social-justice issues
  • Staffing for the Equity & Diversity Center facility

Qualifications

The Graduate Assistant must be admitted to a graduate program at NDSU; maintain a minimum of six credit hours and a 3.0 grade point average for duration of appointment; must be proficient in the use of computer spreadsheets and MS Word programs; must work cooperatively with others; must be knowledgeable about social justice issues, especially as related to: women, LGBTQ, people of color, religious groups, veterans, international people, people with disabilities, social class and age. Successful candidates must have an appreciation for working in the area of equity and diversity.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates enrolled in communication, education, or a social science

area with strong communication and public speaking skills, and eventplanningexperience. The

successful candidate will have a high degree of initiative, anability to carry out tasks to completion

in a multi-task environment, and experienceworking with adiverse group of people.
