Organize a Clean-up in YOUR Neighborhood
If you or your neighbors would like to organize a litter clean-up in your neighborhood please contact our office so we may provide your group with t-shirts (on a first-come, first-serve basis), bags and gloves for the clean-up. We have some supplies left over from the last clean-up and would like to encourage neighborhood folks to take advantage of the summer weather.
River Metals Recycling Incentives
From June 15-29, to correspond with Junk Pick Up dates, River Metals Recycling (RMR) is inviting 9th District Residents to receive higher rates for recycling scrap metal: an additional $10 per ton for ferrous scrap (appliances, sheet metal, cars) and $0.05 per pound extra for nonferrous items (cans, copper, aluminum, stainless steel). To participate in this program click here to print the coupon andbring your scrap metal to River Metals at 2045 River Road between June 15-29. Thanks to River Metals for offering this incentive and for its support of the Green Triangle. Keep metal out of the landfill by taking it to River Metals to be recycled instead of setting it out for Junk Pick Up and take home some cash. Find your Junk Pick Up dates on the Louisville website. Watch a video about how to recycle metal at RMR.

Joan Riehm Environmental Leadership Award
From the Office of Mayor Fischer
The third annual Joan Riehm Environmental Leadership Award was presented on May 31, 2012, to 9th District Louisville Metro Councilwoman Tina Ward-Pugh for her outstanding leadership in the quest for a more sustainable future through the creation of the 9th District Green Triangle. The Riehm Award recognizes a person or group that leads environmental sustainability efforts in the community. The Green Triangle initiative began more than three years ago as a way for residents in the 9th District to go on line, create a profile and track their global footprint. The measurable outcomes are collected aggregately and used to quantify the impact and leverage funding. Help Metro Public Works Identify Illegal Dumpers
Residents who may have witnessed illegal dumping or saw a vehicle carrying trash now have the opportunity to help Metro Government catch people illegally dumping. New state of the art cameras will be up this summer in problem areas which have seen repeated illegal dumping. The cameras are designed to be mobile and go where ever illegal dumpers may go. The cameras are portable self-contained solar powered units. They have very high resolution (18 Mega Pixels) making it easier to zoom in and retrieve details. The cameras are motion activated and work at night as well as day. Images can be sent to remote computers in the form of text messages or even remote downloading. Earlier this year, the Metro Council revised the illegal dumping laws that gave law enforcement officers the ability to impound any vehicle involved in illegal dumping. Please visit the Solid Waste Management website by clicking here to help identify illegal dumpers.
