TEXTBOOK - BIOLOGY – Glencoe 2007–I have a classroom set to use. The student will have an opportunity to check out a text book from the classroom for a brief time if needed.

These dates are tentative due to unexpected events affecting the school day.

Unit 4 (Ch 14-17) History of Biological Diversity – weeks 18-23
Unit 5(Ch 2-5) Ecology – week 24-26
Unit 6 (Ch 18-20) Viruses, Bacteria, Protists, and Fungi – weeks 27-28
Unit 7(Ch 21-23) Plants – week 29-31
Unit 8 (Ch 24-27)Invertebrates - week 32-33
Unit 9(Ch 28-30) Vertebrates – week 34-35;
Final Exams- week 36
GRADING
- Grading will occur on a variety of assignments, including class participation, worksheets, writing assignments, notebooks,problem-solving labs, formal labs, quizzes, tests, and projects.
- Assignments will be filed in the classroom until the end of the school year to verify grades, if a question arises.
- Grades will be recorded in INOW.Check INOW Home regularly. Please see me if you have any questions about your grade.
- Grading Percentages:
Honors Biology-65% major tests & projects, 30% class work, 5% homework
General Biology- 55% major tests & projects, 40% class work, 5% homework
ASSIGNMENTS ARE:
- DUE at the beginning of the period within 5 minutes after the tardy bell rings.
- Bell ringers will be completed in a composition notebook. There will be one open comp book quiz each nine weeks, so it is important to perform work daily.
- Projectinstructions will be placed on my website with project samples located in my classroom.
- Late work/projects will drop 10% of the assigned grade for each day late.
MAKEUP WORK
For regular daily assignments (other than projects), you have as many days to make up the work as you have been "excused" for your absence. Projects are due on the assigned due date or the day you return from an absence.
REMEMBER: It is your responsibility to makeup tests and assignments without me reminding you.
- There is a basket with daily assignments for you to check what you missed and complete.
- Tests must be made up afterschool within two weeks after returning to school.
LATE -WORK POLICY
- Daily classwork assignments - No credit given without excused absence.
- Projects and all other assignments will be accepted late only with an excused absence.
- Weekly homeworkassignments will not be accepted without an excused absence. It will be assigned on Monday, and you are given 4 days to turn it in.
SUPPLIES
- composition book(NO spiral notebooks)
- One manilla file folder
- 3-ring binder with white notebook paper (I like college ruled to save on paper)
- pens, pencils (pencils are required for scantron tests); colored pencils with sharpener
- $10 donation(cash only) to purchase lab suppliesand technology equipment. Receipts will be issued.
- Donations of paper towels, tissues, Ziploc bags, hand sanitizer and soap are appreciated and needed, as well as office supplies such as paper, ink, and art supplies. Other supplies could include dictionaries(I would like a classroom set) and incentives for good behavior and hard work.
RULES
- Respect others, respect yourself, and respect your school.
- Come to class prepared with all supplies.
- Be in your assigned seat ready to work when the bell rings.
- Follow directions the first time they are given.
- No food, drinks, or gum allowed in classroom.
DISCIPLINE POLICY FOR RULE VIOLATION
1st offense: verbal/written warning
2nd offense: detention (break detention or before school at 7:15 am)
3rd offense:additional detention/parent conference
4th offense: office referral
FIELD TRIP POLICY
Students will be allowed to participate in a field trip to Lanark during the 2nd semester for the Ecology Unit. There are two criteria that will cause a student to forfeit their opportunity:
- If the student goes to ISS or Alternative School
- If the student fails to maintain a passing grade for the first semester.
INOW Home is available through the office. With a PIN number you have access to your student’s grades, attendance and discipline records. Your e-mail address will provide me with a way of contacting you more easily. You may contact me by email ().
