Foundations of Math 3
FoM3is designed to help students prepare for coursework in Math 3 and beyond. Students will engage in realistic problem-solving classroom activities. Lessons will include students working collaboratively in small groups for a period of days, hands-on investigations, discovery learning, and student presentations. With the changes in classroom structure come changes in classroom behavior. Students must be mindful of their behavior to ensure that it does not undermine the collaborative climate that fosters other students’ desire to participate.

Class Expectations – Comply with all KHS and Wake County policies
Also - be responsible, be respectful, and participate!

Grading: Your grade will be calculated as follows:

Quarter Grade: Final Grade: Wake County Grading Scale
Tests 50% 1st Quarter40% A = 93-100
Quizzes 25% 2nd Quarter40% B = 85-92
Class work15% Final Exam20% C = 77-84
Homework 10% D = 70-76
F = 0-69

Quizzes and Tests: Quizzes will be given throughout each unit. Students are required to take quizzes regardless of whether or not they were in attendance the previous day. Quizzes may include material from previous units and may be unannounced. Tests will occur at the end of every unit. If you miss a test you must schedule a makeup time during my office hours.

Grading: In order to balance the grading scale and precent students from being discouraged by low grades, all test and quiz grades will be curved using the chart on my website. With this curve the lowest possible test grade is a 30%. This minimum grade is only offered when effort is evident. If no effort is made a 0% will be given. There is no excuse for a zero. All quiz grades within a unit will be replaced by a higher test grade if applicable. All students are eligible to retake 2 tests each quarter. The maximum grade on a retake is 80%. All homework must be completed in a unit to be eligible for retesting.

Homework: Homework will be assigned nightly. It will be checked the following day for completeness. NO WORK = NO CREDIT! Half credit can be earned for late homework that is turned in before the conclusion of the unit.

Attendance and Late Work: Regular attendance is essential to your success. Please be aware of the WCPSS School Board Policy regarding attendance. In the event of an absence, it will be your responsibility to make arrangements for all make-up work immediately upon your return. Please visit my website if you are absent to see what you missed in order to not fall behind.
