I would like to welcome all the students, teachers, and support staff back for another school year. We have two new teachers on staff at the high school. Ms. Sara Palesh is the 9-12th grade science teacher and junior varsity volleyball coach . Mr. Rick Stewart is the 9-12th grade math teacher and track coach this coming spring. Both teachers are recent graduates of UW-River Falls and look forward to working with our high school students.
By looking at the at the senior class, the outlook for the school year is certainly a positive one. My experience tells me the senior class has the leadership skills needed for academic success as well as extra-curricular activities. When eighteen of the thirty-two seniors were on the “A” honor roll last spring, the expectations are certainly high. Not only has this group kept education a priority, they are off to a great start in volleyball and football as well.
We continue to have all students participate in the silent reading program at the middle and high school. Students are expected to read silently for 15-20 minutes each day. The majority of students look forward to this time and appreciate the opportunity. Research has proven that literacy is the foundation upon which academic learning and successful student performance depends.
The school district has received generous donations from a few community members to help support athletics in our school. Athletes, coaches, administration, and board members appreciate the donations people have made to support our athletic programs in Plum City. Recent donations have included, football goal posts, blocking dummies, banners, weight equipment, wall mat in the gymnasium, and other miscellaneous equipment. Thank you for your support.
Life Touch will be in the school district on September 24th for Picture Day. Parent-Teacher conferences are scheduled for September 30th and October 23rd from 4:00 to 7:30 p.m. Please take an active role in your child’s education by attending one or both of the conferences. The middle school fall music concert is scheduled for October 20th and the high school concert is scheduled for October 27th. Both concerts begin at 7:30 p.m. Homecoming Week is September 29 – October 3. The volleyball team hosts Glenwood City on Tuesday night and the Football team hosts New Auburn on Friday night. Congratulations to the following students for being selected to homecoming court: Casey Dierks, Megan Grab, Phoebe Nyen, Cass Thomas, Bryna Whipple, Nick Anderson, Dana Derricks, Kyle Gilles, Tyler Hanson, and Cody Myer.

Box Tops for Education
Please continue saving Box Tops for Education, which can be found on General Mills Cereals, bread bags, pop secret popcorn and many other food products. Also continue to collect Pop Can Tabs, all types of marked milk jug caps and the Milk Moola labels. Please save your Campbell’s Soup Labels that also support education. You can drop them off at the elementary school or the soup labels to Mr. Stewart’s room 119 in the high school. All of these items collected earn money for Plum City Schools. Thank you!
EMMA'S HOPE
WHAT: A special walk for Children's Cancer Research Fund.
CCRF Mission Statement: CCRF is dedicated to finding a cure for childhood cancer by providing funds to the University of Minnesota where research and training forcuses on the prevention, treatment, and cure of childhood cancers, and to improving the quality of the pediatric childhood cancer patients and their families.

MIDDLE SCHOOL FALL CONCERT

The Plum City Music Department would like to invite everyone to their Middle School Fall Concert. The concert will be held on Monday October 27th at 7:30 p.m. in the high school gym.
Three performing groups will be the center of attention. Starting the evening will be the Middle School Choir. This 45 member group has been rehearsing S.A.B. (three part) voicing already this year. They will be singing spirituals, as well as secular pieces of music.
After the Middle School Choir, the Blue & Gold Band will take the stage. This band is made up of 5th grade beginning instrumental students. They’re always eager to perform with their progress measured in leaps and bounds.
The final group performing that evening will be the Middle School Band, grades 6, 7, & 8. These students have started the year off with a great sound and will perform selections such as “Beauty And The Beast" and “The Olympic Spirit” in honor of this year's Olympic games.

Annual Meeting – June 26, 2008 – Bylaws, Article IV (4.3) (a)
The meeting of the Plum City Educational Foundation, Inc., was held on June 26, 2008, in the Plum City High School Family and Consumer Education Room. Members present were Connie Binkowski, Dean Gilles, Debra Radle, Pat Martin, Todd Bjurquist, and Paul Churchill. Absent was Jeff Heit. President Binkowski called the meeting to order at 7:04 P.M.
Dean Gilles is the Foundation’s new board member. Pat Martin moved for Mr. Gilles to complete Kurt Henn’s term of office as Vice-President. Motion seconded by Todd Bjurquist and carried on unanimous voice vote. Welcome, Dean!.
Minutes of the April 12, 2008 meeting were read by Secretary, Pat Martin.
Todd Bjurquist moved to approve the minutes of the meeting, seconded by Debra Radle, and carried on unanimous voice vote.
Current financial report was given by Treasurer, Debra Radle. Checking account and savings account balances, deposits for memorial donations, scholarship disbursements and CDs and interest rates were noted. President Binkowski presented the Annual Report for Fiscal Year Ending 4/30/08 noting detailed descriptions of income and expenses and CD investments for scholarships. Discussion of various items followed. Pat Martin moved to approve the current financial report and the 2007 – 2008 Fiscal Report . Motion was seconded by Dean Gilles and carried on unanimous voice vote
Scholarship committee report was given by Secretary, Pat Martin. Foundation members Debra Radle, Todd Bjurquist, Pat Martin, Kurt Henn, and Plum City High School faculty member, Jodie Madison, reviewed student applications and chose recipients on April 30, 2008 Twelve scholarships were presented by Todd Bjurquist at the Senior Awards Banquet at Molly’s on Main on May 20, 2008.. Awards given were:
Adolph and Mayme Olson Scholarship - Ashley Bauer, Jenna Luebker, and Sam Sweeney, Henry Ebensperger Memorial Scholarship - Bailey Duden, Henry Ebensperger Family Scholarship - Emily Ryan, Vernon and Lester Clare Scholarship - Steven Waltz,
Adolph and Helen Gilles Memorial Scholarship - Hannan Iverson and Nathan Kearns,
Patrick Gilles Memorial Scholarship - Michael Butt and Lauren Morris, and Viking Coca-Cola Scholarship - Kelsey Heit and Allison Langer.
Organization of board officers followed. Paul Churchill moved to cast a unanimous ballot for Connie Binkowski for President. Todd Bjurquist moved to cast a unanimous ballot for Dean Gilles for Vice-President. Dean Gilles moved to cast a unanimous ballot for Pat Martin for Secretary. Paul Churchill moved to cast a unanimous ballot for Debra Radle for Treasurer. All motions carried by unanimous voice vote.
Debra Radle moved to adjourn the meeting at 8:30 P.M. Motion was seconded by Todd Bjurquist and carried on unanimous voice vote. Next meeting will be held on September 10, 2008.
