Fifth Hour

“Freedom”, “Independence”, “Hard Work” these are the words that come to mind when I think about the American Dream. During these hard economic times people have thought the American Dream as “impossible” or, “dead” I am here to prove that wrong. I believe that the American Dream is attainable but it will have to take some more hard work and sacrifices in order to achieve it. Throughout America’s history many people have doubted if the American Dream is still alive and time and time again the American Dream survived. The main reason why the American Dream will never die Is the purpose of the American Dream. The American Dream is self-definable to is the dream of the inviduial, therefore you can not say that the Dream is dead or unattainable.
The American Dream from today is much different from the American Dream in the past. Before we look at what the American Dream would be like in the past let’s look at what we define the American Dream now. The current version of the American Dream is all about the person’s dream and how they can achieve it. Now lets look at the American Dream in the past such as the 1930s-1950s the American Dream consisted of having a family and to supply and take care of them. This dream is basically conforming to social normality and having an average good life. As you can see that the American Dream from the past and the American Dream are two different things.
The American Dream plays a big role in today’s society. Everything you do has reason right ? That is how the American Dream works. If you have a goal that you are trying to accomplish you are going to have to take a different route to complete that goal compared to others. For example I am a student and my goal right now is to make great grades so that I can go to college and have a good job that I can support a family with. In order to accomplish that goal I am going study really hard and save up money from work to pay for college. Your goal may be completely different but that’s what is great about the American dream there is variety with it.
The American Dream is still very much attainable in today’s society than it has ever been in the history of the United States. Even with the hard economic times we are facing it will just take more hard work and sacrifice in order to attain it. So go out their achieve your dream don’t let anyone or anything stop you, if you fall get back up and continue to go after that dream. Be the difference you want to see. That is what the American Dream is all about \.
