Forth Valley LMC ltdREG 430634

Representing the GPs of ForthValley

NEWSLETTER Dec 2014

Thanks to all who completed the survey monkey survey. The full results have been posted on the website. The results made very interesting reading showing that in Forth Valley workload issues and workforce issues were the biggest challenges facing GPs on a day to day issue. They also show that more Forth Valley GPs are planning to be working less in the future rather then more. The free text comments were very enlightening about how under pressure the profession is feeling.

We have been liaising with the new medical director Ms Tracey Gillies and she has sent a letter to all consultants reminding them of their responsibilities to follow up investigations and to complete med 3s. The LMC will be following this up with a further letter.

The results of the survey have also been passed to SGPC and the RCGP. Other LMCs are also using the same template to complete the same survey.

In 2017 it is likely there will be a new contract and the SGPC will be negotiating on behalf of the GPs of Scotland. There will be consultation meetings in Glasgow and Edinburgh in January. We also hope to organise a local meeting in Forth Valley so that there is the opportunity to give your view of what the next contract looks like.

REP NEWS

Dr David Stevenson has now joined the GP sub-committee and LMC as a representative of the Falkirk area.

ADOPTION/FOSTER MEDICAL FEES

There have been questions raised about the fees practices are charging for these medicals as some practices are charging more then the collaborative fees. The LMC cannot state what practices should be charging but would advice practices to assess the amount of work involved and charge accordingly.

ENHANCED SERVICES

Forth Valley LMC was unable to secure an engagement fee for the Children’s Flu Vaccines this year.

Practices should always carefully assess an enhanced service to see if it is appropriately resourced for the workload.

MENTORSHIP

The South East Scotland Faculty of the RCGP has relaunched their updated and improved mentoring scheme which is open to all GPs including non-members within the West of Scotland area.

The scheme is aimed to give work/life support to doctors it is not a doctors in difficulty scheme. More info is available at fvlmc.org on the supporting GPs page.
