  1. Hats-On for Cancer: Thank you for your generosity!! Together, we raised $100 for the American Cancer Society for wearing our hats on Halloween at Fort Barton School! We’ll be making that donation on behalf of all our Fort Barton Jr. Scholars!
  2. Party Recap: Thank you so much for all of your wonderful treats and volunteering at both our PTO Halloween Extravaganza and our In-School Halloween parties! Our students had an amazing time at both!! We’re so lucky to have such supportive, caring families here at Fort Barton School! I’ve attached a few pictures of some goodies – and am creating an on-line photo album of LOTS of pictures of classroom parties!! Please visit our webpage at then drop down to Fort Barton School, then go to Photos. By the end of the week, I should have the albums finished for the PTO Halloween party, Hats-On Halloween, and In-School Halloween Party, as well as Recess Time!!! You never know which of these pictures may end up in our fabulous Fort Barton School Yearbook!!
  3. Red-White-Blue Day: Fort Barton School Election Day will be held on Friday, November 4, 2016!! Please have your children dress in Red-White-Blue for Friday!!! Thanks!

  1. Scholastic BookFair: Our Fantastic Fall Scholastic BookFair will be run by Sarah St. Laurent and Kathy Blanchette. We always look forward to this time of year. The dates/times of the Fair are: Friday, November 18: 9-10 am and 1-3 pm; Monday, November 21 9-11 am, and 5-7 pm during Parent-Teacher Conferences; and a Make-Up Day on Tuesday, November 22 from 9-11 am. All proceeds from the Scholastic BookFair go to our PTO, who helps to fund our Field Trips and other cool events for our students, so come and check out a great selection of books (nice holiday gifts!). Thanks in advance!
  2. Soccer Goal Posts: We have really great soccer goal posts this year from Coach Murray. We thought this would be a terrific addition to our recess time.

However, a trend has developed. Every recess, between 2-4 students were getting “soccer injuries”. This includes students who were not even playing soccer – some were just walking by the games. This is because the “Recess Soccer Games” have turned into FIFA League Play games – even with Coach Murray, Teacher Assistants, Teachers, and I intervening, stopping the games, reviewing the rules, re-doing the rules, breaking apart “teams” – nothing is working. The aggressiveness is focused solely at each of the new Goal Posts – students are hurting each other to “score a goal at recess”.

This is absolutely unsafe and not the point of cooperative elementary play recess. So, temporarily, we will be putting away the Soccer Goal Posts and have students work on playing ball cooperatively again – without “scoring goals”. We’re going to track to see if recess injuries begin to go down again. We’re just trying to ensure a safe recess playtime for all students – where injuries are minimal, and creative, cooperative play flourishes. Thank you for understanding.

Have a fantastic week!
