[INSERT NAME] from [INSERT TOWN] will be running the Royal Parks Foundation Half Marathon on 11 October as a member of Team Squirrel, the nutty scurry having a crack at the challenge to raise money for London’s eight magical Royal Parks.

He/She has been training over the summer for the event and hopes to finish in around [INSERT TIME] hours. [INSERT NAME] said: [ADD/DELETE QUOTE] “I am really looking forward to the challenge of running the 13.1 mile route in the magical Royal Parks while raising money for this wonderful charity. The course takes you past some of London’s iconic landmarks including Buckingham Palace, London Eye, Houses of Parliament and the Royal Albert Hall – and four of London’s eight Royal Parks – Hyde Park, The Green Park, St James’s Park and Kensington Gardens, so it is going to be a great day.”

Team Squirrel helps raise money to support vital projects across these amazing green spaces. Last year they raised more than £55,000 for various projects in the Royal Parks including the restoration of public playgrounds, community bulb planting and nature conservation projects.

Marion Buggins, Team Squirrel Captain said: “Being part of Team Squirrel is absolutely crackin’. This year being a part of the team takes on greater significance as government funding to maintain the parks has been cut by 25 per cent over four years. The government now gives less than half the £35 million it takes to care for the Parks each year, leaving many gaps. The Royal Parks Foundation Half Marathon and Ultra are vital to our efforts to help protect rare wildlife, restore historic monuments and engage young people in the natural world.”

He/She will be joining more than 16,000 runners on the starting line in Hyde Park to run the stunning autumnal route dubbed the most beautiful run in the world’s greatest city. Now in its eighth year the race is also one of the greenest sporting events in the world. Official race shirts are made from sustainable bamboo and recycled polyester (from recycled plastic bottles!). Every runner gets a nature inspired medal made from FSC-certified wood and 66% of all waste from the event is recycled rather than finding its way to landfill sites.

For those who want to come along and support on the day, the Food & Fitness Festival offers a feast of street food inspired goodies with something for everyone, as well as free activities to keep the whole family entertained.
