Unit Tools – Phase 1

Easier online management for unit-level Scouts, leaders, and volunteers is just around the corner. The BSA has recently developed Unit Tools, an online program that will make managing your unit roster and members’ profiles easier than ever before. Phase 1 of Unit Tools is set for release this summer, with additional phases taking place later this fall and into next year.

The new website to be used for accessing this tool will be my.scouting.org (note the extra period between “my” and “scouting”). The old Myscouting.org will continue to be accessible (and will demonstrate the same features) until much later down the line.

The new features that will be introduced in Phase 1 (this summer) forunitsare the following:

  1. As a unit-level Scout, volunteer, or leader, you will be able to create a My.Scouting account (or use your current MyScouting login) to build a new profile. On this profile you will be able to update a number of fields, including your address, email, and phone number. The only fields that will continue to have to be edited at the council level are name and birth date.
  2. Another feature of Phase 1 of Unit Tools is that the unit Key 3 (unit leader, committee chairman, and chartered organization representative) will have full administration on all unit-modifiable fields. This will come in handy when a volunteer needs assistance updating his profile, but doesn’t have access to a computer.
  3. On the new Unit Tools website, all unit registered adults will have read-only access to rosters, calendars, announcements, and more. This website will be a one-stop shop for anything and everything that is happening in your unit. Additionally, unit-oriented events that are posted on the district-level calendar can be pushed down onto the unit-level calendars if the district deems it necessary.
  4. The Key 3 will have the ability to publish calendar events and announcements for respective viewing by organization-specific adult leaders/volunteers. This meansthe communication may be filtered by what is relevant for each individual depending on his/her role in the unit.
  5. Finally, your unit roster will be made available on my.scouting.org.
