One Sky One World to Feature International Kite Artist George Peters, Live Entertainment, Pet Parade to Benefit Hurricane Pets

Aerial sculptor and public artist George Peters will be a special guest displaying his work and flying kites at the 20th Annual One Sky One World Kite Fly on Sunday, October 9 on the Eastern Shore of Sloan’s Lake Park. An early fascination with sailing led Peters to work with wind and kites. For more than twenty five years, Peters has been making kites, banners and other wind related sculptures while traveling the world flying and exhibiting the kite works at international kite festivals. Peters says of his work, “It makes one stop, if only for a moment, and look deeply with younger and clearer eyes”

Peter’s whimsical banners, the Colorado Pipe Band and Lake Middle School Cheerleaders will also be featured in the Earth and Pet Parade that will begin at 11:30 AM at 17th Avenue and Perry Street. Registration for pets at the parade is $6 and begins at 10:30 AM. Proceeds will aid to shelter and rescue Hurricane Katrina pets. There will be lots of prizes for pets and owners!

Dedication of the “Frances Melrose” Garden located on the Park west of Meade Street between 18th and 19th Avenues will take place at Noon. Ms Melrose, Founder of Denver Women’s Press, a retired Rocky Mountain New journalist, will be honored for her contributions to Denver’s culture and history. The dedication will feature Gamalon (Balinese) Music by Tunis Mekar, comments from City Auditor, Dennis Gallagher, City Councilman, Rick Garcia and Garden designer, Kiki Romero and the release of 400 white doves by White Birds Unlimited.
