To realize our vision of reaching more community members, the YMCA has recently embarked on our $100 million capital campaign. Our goal is to build new YMCA Centres of Community across the across the Greater Toronto area to ensure that everyone has access to the experiences and opportunities they need to reach their full potential.
Astrategic thinker and communicator, the Senior Communications Manager will play a key role as a writer, editor and project manager in ensuring thesuccess of the YMCA’s $100M Capital Campaign and growth of its Major Annual Giving program.
Responsibilities:
- Writes, edits and project manages Capital Campaign communications, including donor proposals, reports, newsletters and production of Campaign videos. Serves as subject matter expert for all content relative to Campaign.
- Prepares speaking notes and PowerPoint presentations for 10+ donor cultivation & stewardship events annually
- Maintains and refreshes case(s) for support, key messages and fundraising collateral for Major Annual Giving priority programs
- Collects and verifies proposal content and project managestransformational and major gift proposals, working with contract writers and designers where required
- Supplies fundraising team with strategically researched letters of intent, custom proposals and proposal templates, and serves as editor to the fundraising team
- Writes and project manages stewardship reports for major donors
- Contributes to the development and execution of a communication plan for the YMCA’s new Centres of Community and the Strong Start, Great Future Capital Campaign
- Collaborates with Marketing Communications team on media advisories and press releases regarding construction or campaign milestones
- Contributes to collection and curation of YMCA stories and testimonials to demonstrate the impact of charitable support
- Manages Fundraising Communications assets (photos, impact stories, program descriptions, stats)
- Understands and integrates the values of philanthropy and volunteerism with YMCA staff, volunteers and members
- Demonstrates appropriate behaviours in line with our Mission, Vision and Values as reflected in our YMCA competencies; takes a member focused approach to increase their understanding of programs offered across the Association. Represents the YMCA and the Association in a professional manner.
- Understands the legal responsibilities and moral imperative to report suspected child abuse to Children’s Aid Society
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications: (Journalism Degree, Fundraising Background)
- Post-secondary education in Journalism (preferred) or other Communications degree (considered)
- 7 to 10years of progressive experience as a writer and editor, with previous experience in a fundraising environment required
- Superior written communications skills, with demonstrated ability to write for a range of audiences
- A track record of project management in marketing, communications or fundraising
- Experience leveraging qualitative and quantitative data to tell compelling stories
- Well-developed interpersonal, and relationship building skills; ability to establish rapport with staff and volunteers
- Creativity, curiosity, sense of humor, high energy level, and an enthusiasm for working with a wide range of individuals
- Ability to plan, prioritize and multitask a diverse workload within a team environment;
- Ability to deliver on tight timelines
- Commitment to working in a socially inclusive environment responding with sensitivity and personal awareness to the diverse needs of members including visible and non-visible dimensions of diversity
- Advanced computer skills (Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite)
- Willingness to work occasional early mornings, evenings or weekends
- Ability and willingness to travel occasionally within, and outside of the Greater Toronto Area
