6th Grade Glimpse

Science: This week we will be starting our new ecology unit. Students will be looking at food chains and food webs. Students will be using those food webs to: identify producers, consumers, and decomposers, describe how energy is transferred within an ecosystem, and predicting the affects humans have on ecosystems. Reading: We will be continuing Unit 4: Poetry. Reading Log #13 is due April 11(Gold day classes) and April 12 (Blue day classes). 4th quarter AR goals must be met by May 17th. Feel free to contact me with questions or concerns and have a great week!

6th Grade Math & Accelerated Math (Mrs. Gillilan): This week, students will be doing a combination of activites. With MAP testing quickly approaching, students will be practicing skills on the DRC website to help prepare for the MAP. Students will also be wrapping up their study of data distributions. Communication Arts: There will be no spelling this week due to Easter break. We will begin MAP review and will continue working on using details from text to support written answers. Reminder: All homework assignments that receive a grade below a C may be redone for grade improvement. Assignments should be asked for that day and are due the next class time. Encourage your student to take advantage of this opportunity if needed.

Keyboarding: In class, students continue to work on improving their typing technique. Each week students have a daily edit proofreading assignment and take timed writings. Each student’s goal is to type 25 wpm with no more than 2 mistakes. Students are encouraged to utilize online keyboarding games to practice their keyboarding skills outside of class. Art:Artists will wrap up their 2point perspective name designs while exploring the use of art elements in art. We will then explore print making. 5th Block Plan 1:36pm-3:

Band: Please mark your calendars for our spring concert which will take place on Tuesday, May 9th at 7:00 PM in the East Gym. Students will need to wear nice black shoes, black dress pants or a black skirt, and their long sleeved blue music t-shirt. If you need help obtaining any of these items, please contact Mrs.

RISE: We will continue to prepare for the Extempore’ competition.

Vocal: The Spring Middle School Choir Concert will be held on Monday, May 1 at 7:00 p.m. in the East Gym. Students should arrive by 6:45. All students should wear their blue music shirts, black pants, black socks, and black shoes. No jeans, flip flops, or tennis shoes, please. If your child does not have these items, please have them see me as soon as possible. This is going to be an exciting concert, you will not want to miss it!!!

FACS: The students will begin discussing manners and kitchen safety. We will be beginning our foods unit very shortly.

Health Enrichment- Students have finished lessons 1,2, and 3, and are moving onto lesson 4 covering Addiction and be moving on to lesson 5 Feeling the Pressure before break. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact Mrs. Briney by email or Gold 1 and Blue 4

Health/ Physical Education- Next week Mrs. Briney's classes & Mr. Hawthorne's classes will be starting their 4 way volleyball unit. Students will begin discussing Nutrition for their Health unit. If you have any questions, feel free to contact Mr. Hawthorne or Mrs. Briney. Coach Hawthornes's plan is Gold 1 or Blue 5 and Mrs. Briney's plan is Gold 1 and Blue

Social Studies: This week students will be taking their test over Chapter 5, Greek culture and how Greek culture spread throughout the world. Gold Day will take their test on 4/11 and Blue day will test on 4/12. After the test we will begin talking about the development of Rome. If you have any questions my email is .
