Class Rules
  • Follow Classroom Expectations,The Hand, and the rules and guidelines found in your Assignment Planner and everything will be fine.
  • If you have a question, raise your hand and it will be answered by the following persons and in this order:
  • yourself
  • If you have a question, please think about it carefully before you actually raise your hand.
  • a group mate
  • Only one group member may get up at a time to assist another.
  • the teacher
  • If the teacher is not in the lab, wait quietly between the doors of this room and Rm. C103.
  • ALWAYS enter the lab quickly yet quietly and in an orderly fashion.
  • NO FOOD OR WATER IS ALLOWED IN THE COMPUTER LAB!!!
  • However, you may ask for a drink of water periodically.
  • Only one (1) bathroom break is allowed per month.
  • No bathroom breaks are allowed in Per. 4 (see next item).
  • Any additional breaks must be paid back with 5 min. after school.
  • Always take the PottyPass with you and sign the clipboard when leaving and re-entering the lab.
  • Talking is prohibited during keyboarding practice, quizzes and tests. However, with permission,talking is usuallyallowed …

  • At the end of the period …
  • ALWAYS log out
  • but do NOT power down the computer or shut off the monitor (except for Per. 6)*
  • ALWAYS place textbooks and document holders neatly on top of the computer,
  • ALWAYS collect belongings, handouts, work, etc.,
  • ALWAYS do a good job on housekeeping,
  • and ALWAYS push your chair close to the table.
Lab Procedures
  • Always have available a section of your binder or accordion file for notes, handouts, assignments, etc.
  • ALWAYS read the instructions on the SmartBoard when entering the room, especially the red text.
  • On every Monday or whatever day begins the school week, take out your Planner and be prepared to write down the assignments for the entireweek.
  • Record only what is in bold type (“HW” or Homework).
  • Record assignments for the entire week, i.e., Mon-Fri.
  • Unless instructed otherwise, all assignments are due on the posted due date and time.
  • All files created for this class will be labeled in the following manner:
  • Novell username.(filename)
  • Your Novell usernameis used when logging into any computer here at MJHS.
  • Be sure that your label does NOT contain any spaces or punctuation except fora period ( . ) or an underscore ( _).
  • Capitalization of letters is not necessary.
  • For example,a file created by student John Doe, the file label would read doejohn.(filename)
  • Upon completion of weekly Cornell notes (“CN”), “drag-and-drop”your CN then print a copy for yourself.
  • A drag-and-drop is done with a “click-hold-drag” of the target file (e.g., an MS Word document) from its source (a folder, the desktop, a USB drive, etc.) to a destination (another folder, a drive on the network, anywhere other than the source).
  • When instructed, turn in your computer-generated assignments with a drag-and-dropto the appropriate drop box (“Inbox”) in Mr. Salgado’s folder on the S: drive:
  • Path (or navigate to): Novell launcher > S drive > CSalgado > INbox_per#
  • ALWAYS be sure your assignments are correctly labeled before dragging-and-dropping them.
  • Hardware/software guidelines:
  • ALL flash drives, SD cards, CDs/DVDs, and other media MUST be scanned for viruses immediately afterlogging in.
  • When using a flash drive or SD card, insert it before logging in.
  • Use the following procedure for a virus scan:
  • Open drive or media by double-clicking it
  • Highlight all files on the drive or media by going to the Edit menu then choosing “Select All” or the key combination of CTRL+A
  • Go to the File menu and choose“Scan for threats…”; click on the “Close” button when the scan is finished.
  • IMMEDIATELY notify the teacher if a warning pops up about a virus.
  • Remove yourflash drive or SD cardonly AFTER logging out.
  • ALWAYS use the Eject button to open and close the CD/DVD tray—NEVER close it by pushing it in with your hand!!!
  • If you are experiencing problems with the computer, e.g., freezes, printing doesn’t work, no sound, etc., notify the teacher.
  • NEVER bring up the Task Manager or use the power button to solve a problem. See ** below.
  • *For Per. 6 students only: Students in Per. 6 are responsible for powering off computers. ALWAYS shutdown the computer in the following manner…
  • …first close all open software applications (be sure to save your work!)…
  • …then go to the START menu > Shut Down > Shut down and power off.
  • **NEVER use the power button on the front of the computer to shutdown.
  • It is not necessary to power off the monitor.
