SECTION 06 20 00

Examine Project Site conditions under which Work of this Section will be performed.

Identify conditions detrimental to providing the proper and timely performance of completed Work.

Before starting door installation, carefully inspect each door and frame and verify the following:

Door furnished is proper door for intended opening.

Door and frame are in sound condition, unblemished, and without warp, twist, bow or other attributes which would cause rejection of door installation.

Hardware supplied is hardware specified and/or hardware approved by Architect. Install only approved door hardware using proper equipment/tools for installation.

Before installing plastic composite boards, examine supporting framework for proper completion.

Do not proceed with installation until detrimental conditions have been corrected. Beginning of installation means acceptance of conditions.

PREPARATION

Material Preparation: Condition interior wood materials to temperature and average prevailing humidity conditions in installation areas before installing.

Preparation of Doors:

Preparation of Steel (Hollow Metal) Doors For Door Hardware: If doors are not properly factory/shop prepared for door hardware return them to door manufacturer/fabricator for required alterations.

Preparation of Wood Doors For Door Hardware: If doors are not factory prepared for hardware installation, cut holes and mortises in doors using a jig provided by or approved by the hardware item manufacturer. Holes and mortises shall fit snugly to provide as much support as possible for hardware.

If required, trim wood doors to provide clearances indicated in Section specifying doors.

Accommodating Finishing of Wood Doors: Wherever Project site cutting and fitting is required to install a hardware item into a door surface which will later be Project site painted or finished in another way, install item completely, then remove and store item in a secure place during finish application time. After completion of finish application reinstall hardware item.
