Evelyn Faye Lower

Evelyn “Faye” Lower, 91, of Redfield, SD was called to the Lord on Tuesday, March 28, 2017. She passed quietly surrounded by her loving children, at the Community Memorial Hospital in Redfield. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday April 1, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Redfield. Father Gregory Frankman will officiate. Burial will be at the Ashton Cemetery in Ashton.

Visitation will be Friday, March 31, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with a Rosary beginning at 7:00 p.m., at Thelen-Hyke Funeral Home in Redfield, SD. Family will be present from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. to accept condolences.Thelen-Hyke Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements. (

Faye was born to Walter and Vera (Sanders) Rathe in Fullerton, ND on January 2, 1926. After graduating from Fullerton High School she received a one year teaching certificate. Faye then taught school in a one room school house near Fullerton, ND.

In 1945 Faye married Noel Victor Remillard. They lived on a farm near Fullerton, ND and had four children. In 1955 they moved to Redfield, SD.

After the death of her spouse, Faye married Donald C. Lower in 1960.

Faye retired from the SD Developmental Center. She was a life time member of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post #2755 where she held several offices.

Faye enjoyed her crocheting and needlework, playing cards with dear friends, going to coffee and bingo, cooking, doing puzzles and crossword puzzles.

Faye is survived by her brother Robert Rathe of Virginia and her sister Fern Eull, Niles, MI., her three children Joe Remillard of Arvada, CO., David (Marlene) Remillard of Garrison, ND., and Marcelline Reynolds of Mount Vernon, WA. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Renee Remillard, Houston, TX., Julie (Jeff) Hattenback, Mt. Vernon, WA., Kerri (Kevin) Derickson of Tallahassee, FL., and Kelly (Kristy) Remillard, Bismark, ND., and six great grandchildren, Cassandra, Joshua, Carter, Jayd, Katie and Jack.

Faye was preceded in death by her husband Don Lower and son Michael Remillard.
