Prior Park Schools (PPS) comprises four schools. Three of those schools, Prior Park College, The Paragon and Prior Park Preparatory School are incorporated in England as Prior Park Educational Trust Ltd. The fourth Prior Park School Gibraltar is incorporated in Gibraltar as Prior Park School Ltd. Both are companies limited by guarantee and registered charities.

  1. Mission Statement

1.1Prior Park Educational Trust (PPET) recognises its responsibility to promote and practice environmentally friendly and sustainable development.

1.2Environmentally sustainable practice is essential to ensuring quality of life without damaging the planet for future generations. This requires a balance between economic prosperity, social equity and care for the environment.

1.3The Trust is, therefore, aware of the need toinstilla sense of environmental responsibility amongst both pupils and staff, in order to integrate the principle of sustainability into all school activities.

1.4The Trust will comply with all relevant environmental legislation, regulations and other requirements, as a minimum.

  1. Resources and Purchasing

2.1The Trust is committed to reducing waste and excessive procurement, through a programme of reusing and recycling wherever possible and practicable.

2.2Equipment will be turned off when not in use, and old equipment will be disposed of in line with ecological guidelines.

3.1The Trust is conscious of the need to conserve energy and water, and will strive to implement initiatives to encourage efficiency in these areas.

  1. Waste Management

4.1The Trust will endeavour to eliminate[MB1] endeavours to eliminate as much waste as possible going to landfill, in the following ways:

  • Usinge paper sparingly before disposing of it with recycling bags;
  • Usinge emails to communicate with parents and carers, to minimise both ink and paper use;
  • Compost all suitable materials;
  • Recycle items such as paper, cardboard and ink cartridges.
  1. Travel and Traffic

5.1The Trust provides school buses and minibuses as part of a Travel Plan in an attempt to reduce car usage and traffic around the school sites.

  1. Food and Drink

6.1The Trust encourages healthy eating and offers nutritionally healthy meals for all pupils (day and boarding), staff, and visitors.

6.2Food is sourced locally wherever possible, and the Trust is fully committed to Fairtrade practice and ethical procurement. [MB2]The Trust promotes an initiative to consider Fairtrade as an alternative.

6.3Pupils are encouraged to drink water throughout the day. It is provided with lunch and in water fountains around the site.

  1. Buildings and Grounds
  1. The Trust will take into account sustainable construction principles in new builds and refurbishments, as far as is possible and practicable, particularly in the light of the requirements and restrictions of listed buildings.
  1. Curricular and Extra-Curricular Commitments
  1. Environmental responsibility and awareness of the need for sustainability will be taught in the curriculum, in specific PSHE classes, as well as within subject lessons where relevant, notably Geography and the Sciences.
  2. Extra-curricular activities and special awareness days, such as Green Days, also encourage awareness and active participation in environmentally friendly practices.
  1. The Trust promotes an education which makes full use of the grounds surrounding its schools – providing outdoor learning to develop the students’ social and environmental conscience.
