ENVIRONMENT AGENCY BOARD MEMBERS

Would you like to play a leading role in protecting and improving the environment for future generations?

If so, this role could be for you.

We are looking for three exceptional people to join the Environment Agency as non-executive board members.

Environment Agency Board Members have an essential role in setting the strategic direction and providing stewardship of the environmental outcomes and £1.3bn of public funds entrusted to the Environment Agency.

The Environment Agency is a unique organisation with a challenging remit. We provide an essential service to the public through our operational role, which ranges from reducing the risks from flooding, to working to reduce the impacts of climate change, to regulating industry - holding poor performers to account.

Environmental issues know no boundaries and we work with central government, local authorities and other organisations to protect and improve the quality of the environment for everyone. We are a trusted advisor to government and our operational experience informs future environmental policy.

The Secretary of State is seeking applications for three non-executive board members to join the Environment Agency Board from February 2017. Candidates will have a demonstrable ability to see the bigger picture, experience of driving forward substantial change, the ability to influence a wide range of contacts and stakeholders, and a collaborative style which commands the confidence of ministers, fellow board members and other senior figures.

To complement the skills of the existing board members we are encouraging applications from people who are able to meet one of more of the following criteria:

·  Financial, investment or risk, particularly the ability to Chair the Pensions Board Committee and make a substantial contribution to the committees for Audit and Risk, and Remuneration;

·  Local leadership, demonstrated through active involvement in local authority networks with the ability to influence at a local and national level, ideally in the context of managing large budgets or services in complex organisations;

·  Engineering , particularly the ability to contribute and bring in external insight and expertise to large hard and soft engineering projects, and enable long term strategic decision making to build effective and efficient infrastructure.
