Essential Criteria

Candidates must demonstrate the following competencies:

Experience and Knowledge

You must have:

  • experience of working strategically in the public or private sector
  • an understanding of governance and accountability in the public or private sector
  • an understanding of the objectives and work of the Forestry Commission preferably in England.
  • financial management in a large organisation in the public, private or third sector.
  • an understanding of the direction of current government policy

You must also have experience in at least two of the following fields:

  • sustainable development
  • forestry and natural resource management
  • environmental issues such as renewable energy and climate change
  • business and commercial awareness
  • funding streams and mechanisms in the public and private sector

It would be desirable for you to have at least one of the following:

  • experience as a Board member in public, private or third sector
  • experience of significant organisational change
  • experience in governance, audit and accountability processes
