Purpose
This certificate recognises the knowledge and skills required by people working in the road construction sector of the civil construction industry. People credited with this qualification have a knowledge of road formation and drainage, and are able to work safely at roadworks sites, install safety structures, dismantle services, use stabilisation techniques on roading materials, and use a power-driven rotary broom. The elective unit standards enable recognition of a range of other skills related to road construction.
This qualification leads to the National Certificate in Civil Construction Works (Foreperson) with optional strands in Kerb and Channel, Concreting, High Capacity Highways, and Roading [Ref: 0208].
Replacement Information
This qualification, the National Certificate in Civil Construction Works (Introductory Skills) [Ref:0770], the National Certificate in Civil Works and Services [Ref:0771], and the National Certificate in Roading Maintenance [Ref:0773], replaced the National Certificate in Civil Construction Works with strands in Civil Construction, Highway Construction, and Highway Maintenance [Ref:0210].

Prerequisite: National Certificate in Civil Construction Works (Introductory Skills [Ref:0770] or demonstrate equivalent knowledge and skills.
Applications for recognition of prior learning, supported by appropriate documentation, should be made either to InfraTrain New Zealand or to accredited providers.

Transition Arrangements

Version 2 was issued to indicate that this qualification is expiring.
The qualification has not been replaced. As the structure and content of the qualification is different from existing qualifications there is no formal replacement qualification.
People currently working towards this qualification may either complete the requirements for qualification or transfer to the National Certificate in Civil Construction Works with strands in Concrete Kerb and Channel, Concrete Work, Culverts and Drainage Systems, Interlocking Paving, Retaining Structures, Roadside Amenities, Road Safety Barrier, Road Construction, Road Maintenance, and Traffic Signage [Ref: 1326]. The National Certificate in Civil Infrastructure (General Introductory Skills) [Ref: 1125] is identified as an alternative transfer option. InfraTrain New Zealand encourages all individuals currently enrolled in this qualification to transfer to either of these qualifications.
The last date for entry to training programmes or courses for this qualification is 31December 2007. The last date for assessment of this qualification is 31December2010.

Previous version of the qualification
Version 1 of this qualification, along with the National Certificate in Civil Construction Works (Introductory Skills) [Ref:0770], the National Certificate in Civil Works and Services [Ref:0771], and the National Certificate in Roading Maintenance [Ref: 0773] replaced the National Certificate in Civil Construction Works with strands in Civil Construction, Highway Construction, and Highway Maintenance [Ref:0210].
The prerequisite for this qualification is the National Certificate in Civil Construction Works (Introductory Skills) [Ref:0770].
The transition period for the replaced qualification expired on 31 December 2001.
InfraTrain New Zealand and the industry will continue to recognise the replaced qualification.
For the purposes of this qualification people who have gained credit for the following unit standard(s) will be exempt from the requirement to gain credit for the replacement unit standard(s).
