The Engineering Environmental Planner is responsible for reviewing, analyzing and reporting on the environmental and ecological impacts engineering projects. He or she needs to do the work under general direction. It is also needed to work for the flood control and roads. It is needed to first determine the need of the project by evaluating them. He or she has to be very sure that the project is being completed in a feasible manner and it is in total compliance with environmental regulations and laws as well.

Duties and responsibilities

There are the following duties and responsibilities which are expected to be fulfilled by an engineering environmental planner:

  • The engineering environmental planner has the prime responsibility to analyze specific plans of less complicated.
  • It is also needed to analyze the different plans or controversial schemes or projects.
  • He or she has to determine the level of the environmental reviews.
  • He or she has to access the compliance with regulations as well as compatibility with policies.
  • It will be the responsibility to evaluate the impact on the environment of debris clearing, road construction and similar engineering plans and projects.
  • It is also necessary to determine the necessary mitigation actions.
  • He or she has to prepare the needed applications for permits.
  • He or she has to monitor the environment properly for ensuring that it is compiling with the permit conditions.

  • The engineer also needs to negotiate the contracts with concerned consultants to do the work properly.

  • He or she should have the ability to learn the regulation and provisions in the National Environmental Policy Act or the NEPA.
  • It is needed to have the ability to review the documents and processes properly.
  • He or she should have proper required knowledge of the gathering and analyzing data.
  • He or she needs to be able to interpret and apply concerned environment regulations to various project plans.
  • The person needs to have the interpersonal skills to establish harmonious work relationships with the staff.

Education and Qualifications

  • The basic degree required for the job is a bachelor’s degree in areas of geography, planning, environmental law, environmental studies, life sciences and any other related subjects.
  • He or she should possess a valid Class C Driver’s License.
