Timeline for Poetry Contest
2012/2013
October 17–Mar 1st Individual sites hold their grade level & school–wide contests.
*One winning poem per grade per grade level goes onto district. Poems need titles, but no identifying names.
March 8, 2013 All poems are due to Ryan James (G203) by 4:00 PM (with parent permission attached)
April 10, 2013 Poetry Winners are announced
Board Meeting in May (TBA) All district winners are celebrated at Board meeting at 7 PM. Poetry Coordinators are invited to announce student names as they are introduced to shake hands with the superintendent & president. Students are presented with a certificate, anthology & pin.
After Board Mtg All school-level winners receive certificates & anthologies.
Poetry coordinators evaluate what worked well this year (and what didn’t), and make recommendations for improvements for the next school year.
Poetry Check List
□ All poems should be typed with a title and NO NAME for student, teacher or school on front (we add these).
□ Attach permission form (with a paper clip-not a staple) to the poem. Make sure permission form is completely filled out.
□ Check for illustration or help student choose clip art – use thick black marker or pencil to draw.
□ Check poems for questionable content (i.e. rape, suicide – something not appropriate for district-wide printing).
□ Make copies to keep at your site (in case they get lost in the mail).
□ E-mail Karen Knight or Ryan James with any questions or concerns.
All students will be receiving a certificate once their poems have been sent into the district – either for “participation” or for a “district winner”
