End of the Winter Season Newsletter 2-28-14

Dear Parents and Swimmers,

WAY TO GO OTTERS! WE ARE PROUD OF YOU! We won our 22ndConference Championship by 1141 pts. over 2nd PlRiverfront Y, 3rdNW Urbandale & 4th Roosevelt. The other 3 teams swam at Lincoln. We compared their half of the Conference and we would have won 33 events, Lincoln 22, East 16 and Altoona 15. We would have gone 1-2 or 3 in 72 of the 86 events. Our Conference Meet was great, which followed a season of hard work. We had 156 swimmers swim in this year’s Conference Meet and I really appreciate you being there to support the team. We worked hard this year and many of you had your best swims of your life. Keep up the hard work and believe in yourself! Read below about a way to stay in shape and improve your swimming. We swam great and really went after our races. After Friday Night we were over 800 pts. ahead and the younger swimmers extended that lead by about another 300 points. There are so many positives we can look at: all the new swimmers and families, the effort, the hard work, the great swims, the outstanding attendance, the Winter Parent’s Night Out, the donations for the Zoo, the willingness of our older swimmers to help with the younger swimmers, the Super assistant coaches and the fantastic support and donations of and to the team.

A special thanks goes out to all the swimmers who made the commitment to be part of our team & be at the conference meet. THANKS to those of you who came out 2nd session and those of you who swam all season. I truly appreciate ALL THAT EVERYONE DOES! THANKS SO MUCH FOR ALL YOUR HARD WORK!

I want to again emphasize my feelings about swimming. It is healthiest sport you can get involved in. The workouts not only benefit you physically but also mentally. I feel the goal setting really improved our performances. Many of you did fantastic at the Conference Meet. We had some time drops of over 20 sec. It's amazing how many swimmers reached their goal times and hit them exactly or within a couple of tenths of seconds. It is something we need to talk about during the season to push towards those goals. Swimming pushes you like no other sport. I feel we are preparing kids for success, in and out of the pool. If you learn to push yourself, make a commitment to work your hardest and believe in yourself, you can succeed in anything you choose. There are easier sports than swimming but not many with as many benefits.

In our 23rdseason of the 2 Rivers Swim Conference, we ended the season with 172 swimmers. This was the largest winter team ever and they did aGREAT JOB improving in almost 70% of their races. The team dropped 514.53 sec.(393.5 in 2013) which was figured not only by adding times that went down but also times that went up. We are still shooting for +80% improvement. We had 39 (32 in 2013) swimmers who dropped all their times and 36 (26 in 2013) that dropped all but one time.
