Chapter 1

Elisa Stots

Elisa Stots is a girl in my class. She’s more than just a girl in my class; she’s my BFF, my best friend forever. She has smooth blonde hair. Every time she wears it out, I always try to make her hair look just like mine. On rainy days we would stay inside and draw pictures for each other. On sunny days we play outside games.

One day I invited her to a sleep over at my house. (One thing you should know is that Elisa Stots loves sleepovers.) At the end of the day my mom picked her and I up in her grey car. As soon as we got to my house my little sister pulled all the toys out and made a mess. Boy, what an annoying little sister!

Chapter 2

The Sleep Over

I got so mad I thought I was going to burst. My little sister’s name is Sabria and she gets on my nerves sometimes. Sabria didn’t just get on my nerves; she got on Elisa’a nerves too. The worst part is when she tells her knock, knock jokes because the yare so lame. Eventually I made my little sister be quiet.

I asked Elisa if she wanted a snack. Sabria budded in and said, “You’re supposed to ask me too.” “No, I am not,” I said. “Whatever!” I went back to asking Elisa if she wanted a snack. She said yes. We both wanted jello with whipped cream with cranberries mixed with ginger beer.

After we ateout snack we sat back and let it digest. We waited and waited and waited. Finally, my mom said that we could go outside and play. We took turns riding my big girl bike. We had a blast until my sister came. The first thing she said was, “I have a new job.” “Whatever!” I was just glad it was almost bedtime. I went inside with Elisa. I put in my pink PJs and Elisa put on her pink ones too. It was 8 o’ clock by the time we were ready for bed. It seemed like it took Sabria 2 days to put hers on.

That night I shared my bed with my best friend Elisa or should I say, I wanted to share my bed with her. My sister and I have bunk beds and Sabria sleeps on the bottom so Elisa had to sleep with my annoying little sister. I was so mad! Really mad. I was really worried about what Sabria would say or do. As soon as I started to think about t, I fell asleep. I dreamt about Friday, my favorite day of the week. But in the middle of it all, my little sister woke me up. “Sister, Sister, wake up,” she said. I tired to open my eyes. It was the afternoon already. I was late for school. That’s when I realized I was moving to the 3rd grade today. I was so upset.

Suddenly Jonathan, a boy in my class said, “Can’t you just wait till Monday?”

“Why?” I asked.

“Because, that’s the day we move.”

“Oh! I thought we were moving today. I guess I’m just too excited.”

I was excited but also mad at Elisa. She had walked to school and was there on time but she left me sleeping and I had to make up all the work I missed because I was late. She got to go out and play. Some BFF!

Chapter 3

Moving to Grade 2

I had a wonderful weekend but it was time to get my brain working. Elisa and I were friends again. I was really nervous about going to the 2rd grade but Elisa was excited to go and so were Jonathan and some of my other friends. A lot of others felt like me though. First we had to say goodbye to our grade 1 teacher and then we were ready: well some of us.

My first few days were not good at all. The first four days I was late because I lost my knapsack, then my homework and my lunch twice. It was as bad as it could get because I didn’t want my new teacher to not like me.

Then, the most wonderful thing happened on the sixth day. My teacher turned into a queen. (Not a real queen, but the kind of teacher you just love.) For the whole year we were happy and excited. We had birthday celebrations, author’s parties and lots of other things because we worked hard. We always tried our best and that made our teacher so proud of us. We worked on school days and even on the weekends just to make her happy.

Finally, the time came when school was almost over. Wow! It was, it was, I can’t even say the word. It was Fantastic, super, wonderful, fun, great and altogether it makes fansupfugreat!

The next day we had a free grub day. I wore a pair of pants, shades, a sparkly pink shirt and a purse with a pencil. (Oh, you’re gonna love the shoes!) I wore pink bright pink shoes with diamonds. I could not wait to get to school because I just looked fabulous.

But I was so irritated when I got there because two people were dressed just like me. Boy was I mad!

We were celebrating the last day of the first term. All the children in the school were happy except me. When my mom picked me up, I wanted to tell her the whole story but I didn’t know where to start. I gave her my report card. It said, Reading, great, Writing, wonderful, Stories, terrific, Behavior, needs improvement! Mom started to talk to me about my behavior and about how I don’t raise my hand in class.

“You need to work on this,” she said.

“I’m sorry but if I put my hand up, Miss Tuzo might pick someone else and Iwill get mad,” I said back.

“Oh well, you have to let others….”

“Stop!” I shouted. “You were gonna say to let others have a turn and not me weren’t you?”

“No. I was going to say let someone else have a turn. That’s it.”

“Well either way, I would still be mad and grumpy. I don’t want to talk about it anymore!”

As soon as my mom tried to talk some more I said shhhhh, shhhhhh, shhhh! I loved saying that. Then I realized that the best part of grade 2 was going to be that your mom didn’t have to pick you up unless you wanted her to. I didn’t want her to. I loved grade 2 now. In fact, I think when I grow up I am going to be a grade 2 teacher.

3rd grade was like eating frozen yogurt with nuts. It was fun and cool. Wow! That’s all I could say, Wow.

Chapter 4.

The Halloween Parade

As soon as we got back to school, all of my friends hugged. We had a wonderful summer and we were happy to see each other again. The summer seemed so long but now it was time for another school term. This one turned out to be a pretty good too. We had lots of fun times.

At Halloween time we got to dress up as characters. Elisa, Jonathan and I were dressed up as cowboys. Everybody else was dressed as moms or dads or witches. My teacher was extra spooky. She was a spider witch with an orange hat and two mouths. We got to have a costume parade and a party. The food was great. Jonathan stayed by me until the parade was finished but Elisa, she went all over. She came and went and came and went. The parade was the greatest. Without me it wouldn’t have been so great though.

Elisa talked about the parade all the way to her house. I don’t know how she can walk for half an hour and talk about the same topic! All that walking made my legs hurt.

Chapter 5

Making New Friends

It took me two months to tell Elisa that I want to make more friends. She would still be my BFF but I wanted to play with and talk to other children like Jonathan too. I wrote her a letter. The card said,

Dear Elisa,

You are pleasant. You are kind. But you don’t tell me everything that you find. Do you want to make more friends? Please say you’re happy and you do.

Your BFF.

She knew what I was talking about and said okay. I told her that we could still be friends and she was happy with that. I was delighted.

The first person we played with was Jonathan just like I wanted. He was relaxing on the grass and we asked him if he wanted to be our friends. He said, “Sure, why not?”

That afternoon, all three of us walked home together. It was nice to have someone else listen to Elisa talk.

The next day, I did my morning work and had my fruit like we always do. At recess play, Jonathan, Elisa and I asked Kayin, Liliana, Rodrigo, Kashonta and Jerssiah to be our friends. They all said yes besides Jerrsiah at first but then she said yes too. We played everyday together. We had so much fun and I thought we were going to be happy forever. But then one day Elisa said, “I don’t want to play with them anymore.”

“Why,” I asked.

“Well, they are nice……”

“You don’t like them because they are nice?”

“No, I am jealous because you don’t want to play with just me anymore.”

“Oh, that’s why. Well you don’t have to jealous. You are still my BFF.”

She seemed to be okay with that and off we went to class.

All day I sent cards to my friends. The cards said to meet me at the secret place at recess time. When we got to our spot we all agreed to be friends forever but that we were gonna make friends with everybody that was nice or who had a touch of drama like Zariah and Dae-Lyn. We decided that if people wanted to be our friends then we were gonna make up of things they had to do. The list was:

  1. Brush Teeth
  2. Sing Songs
  3. Polish Shoes
  4. Wear clean underwear
  5. Be nice
  6. Be helpful
  7. Be a true friend
  8. Never say Never
  9. Never say you can’t
  10. Eat properly
  11. Wear earrings
  12. And always use the password (Tu ku nu fu Chaun tu nu to koo nu)

Zariah and Dae-Lyn agreed and we had more and more friends to play with.

Then things started to get out of control. People started to tell my friends like Kashonta, Jerrsiah, Rodrigo and Liliana that they had to go or that they could only visit our secret place on Tuesdays. I was really sad about that. It was like eliminating people for being good. But I told them that they could come anytime because this was my club and I felt for them.

Making more friends didn’t turn out to be so great and so we just decided to start a new club. We didn’t want to be friends with people who eliminated people. If we did make more friends it would be with cats, birds and fish.

The next day, I invited my club to my mom’s boss’ party. Their parents said they could go and off we went.

Chapter 6

The Party

“Let me introduce you to everyone,” I said to my friends. “This is Kristen, Noah, the boss, Linda, Jada, Sophie and Joy. They all work with my mom.”

Finally the party started. We got to make robots at the party. It was so much fun. Our robots were not as good as the man who taught us but we were happy anyway. We made it with a cup, bottle tops, tape, plastic forks and plastic spoons.

After that we got to watch my favorite movie: Alvin and the Chipmunks. My favorite song is ‘FunkyTown’. Then we ate lots of food like shrimps. Here comes my little sister again. Of course she made me mad but that’s just her.

Everybody sand Happy Birthday to my mom’s boss and it was terrific. The party was great and everyone had a good time even Sabria. This party was one of a kind and Im glad all of my true friends could come.

The party went on for a long time and by 10:00 we all were very tired but we didn’t want to leave.

Mommy said, “Five more minutes.”

“But Mom,” I said.

“No buts!” she blurted out. “Get ready to go.”

Then it was four minutes because I wasted my time talking with mom. It was 11:00 and we all left. I asked if they liked the party and they all said yes. We all fell asleep during the car ride home. Mommy even fell asleep. Don’t worry her friend Omari was driving.

In the car, I had a dream. It was about going on trip to New York. The warm sun was on our faces. We went swimming in the cold water with my mom and Omari. We had a blast! We splashed the water on one another and then we drank lots of drinks. When we got cleaned up and dressed, I put on my sunflower dress and we went shopping.

Then my Mom woke me up. “Where is everyone,” I asked.

“We dropped them off at their houses,” she said. “And now I have a surprise for you.”

“What is it,” I asked.

We are going away to live. You are going to have a new school, new clothes and new friends in New York!”

“New York? Can my friends come?

“No,” she said.

I was so very sad.

“You’re going to love it.”

“No, I wont,” I said.

That night, I talked to my bear about going away. I stayed up all night with just me and my bear. Didn’t mom understand that I didn’t want to leave my friends? Didn’t she know I didn’t want to leave my BFF? Didn’t she know I didn’t want anymore new friends?

Chapter 7

Moving to New York

After two weeks we left for New York. Mom woke me up that morning. I got up and got dressed with the tears rolling down my face. Mr. Bear, Mom, Omari, Sabria and I drove to the airport. My friends were all there to say goodbye. We cried so much and Elisa and I cried the most. We waited in line and then we checked our suitcases. We caught a US Air plane to New York. As the plane moved in the air, I watched the clouds and the clouds looked like Elisa’s face. I pulled down my shade and read my book. They ladies came around and asked if we wanted something to drink. I got a Sprite, Mommy got water and Sabria and Omari got orange juice. I made bubbles in my drink because Elisa and I always made bubbles in our soda.

When we got off the plane, we had to look for our luggage. We waited for the red light to come on and finally our luggage came on the spinning thing. Our luggage was the 9th off. I counted. After that we went to our hotel. Our room was number 6421. When we got in, Mom and Omari unpacked the suitcases while Sabria and I watched Sponge Bob.

I just knew I was not going to be happy but 2 weeks later I was. It really wasn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be. My birthday was coming in a few days, my best day ever. A party was being planned and some of the new friends I had made were coming. My new friends were pretty cool. On the day of the party, I was pretty excited. We had a clown and pony rides.

Suddenly, there was a knock at the door. Mom told me to go and get it. To my surprise, Elisa, Jonathan, Kashonta, Rodrigo and Jerrsiah were all standing there.

“Surprise!” they shouted.

“Wow! You guys really came. Come in. Where are my presents?”

“We are your presents, silly!” Elisa shouted.

My party was just fantastic! The cake and food were delicious and having all of my friends there was the best present ever. I had a blast.

My friends stayed in New York for the whole weekend. We laughed, we giggled, we told jokes and played tricks like we used to. But then it was time for them to go. They all said that they would call and write, but Elisa said that she would come to visit on every holiday. Now that’s what I call a BFF. I love my best friend and I will love her no matter where I am. I know she loves me too and I cant wait until I see her again. Even though I have made new friends, I will always have just one best friend forever.

Chapter 8

My Best Friend Forever

Elisa Stots is a girl in Bermuda. She’s more than just a girl in Bermuda; she’s my BFF, my best friend forever. She has smooth blonde hair. Every time she wears it out, I always try to make her hair look just like mine. On rainy days we would stay inside and talk to each other on the computer or the phone. On sunny days we play with our other friends but we think of each other.
