Draft RFA Plan Ready for Committee Review

Final touches are being incorporated into the draft RFA Plan for the Committee’s review. The next meeting of the RFA is scheduled for June 24th where the draft will be unveiled to the Committee for its review and amendments. The Committee has set spring of 2015 as a target date to place the RFA issue before voters.

Fire Trucks By The Lake

The Pacific Northwest Chapter of SPAAMFAA will again hold its annual Fire Trucks by the Lake event at Horseshoe Lake on August 9th. Dozens of antique fire apparatus will be on display including demonstrations of a number of the old engines. Displays and demonstrations will also include an 1899 Steam Pumper.

Open Public Meetings Training

The Board of Fire Commissioners completed their required open public meetings training at a workshop on July 9th. The training, now required by state law, must be completed by all elected officials no later than December 31st. The training is available in either a classroom setting or on line. Revised Standard of Cover Nearly Complete

Revisions to the department’s Standard of Cover (SOC) document are close to being completed and will be presented to the Board of Fire Commissioners at an upcoming meeting.

Since the last SOC was adopted in 2009 the fire district has added the City of Woodland and Clark County Fire District 2 to its operation.

The Standard of Cover outlines the levels of service provided by the district including station locations, staffing, response time goals, etc.

TRAINING

Training Burns Completed Without a Hitch

As the work on SR 502 moves forward the fire district acquired a number of residential structures to be used for training. Training burns were conducted at:

  • June 27 – 7915 NE 219th Street
  • June 28 – 4701 NE 219th Street
  • June 29 – 2702 NE 219th Street

The Training Division reported a total of seven (7) burns were conducted over the past 8 weeks with no injuries reported.

EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES

Two Ambulance Proposals Being Reviewed

Formal presentations by American Medical Response (AMR) and Faulk Ambulance were presented to the evaluation committee on July 11th. The review committee will submit their findings and recommendation to the Vancouver City Council for a final decision later this month. While it was hoped the Committee’s recommendation would be ready mid to late July, that date may be pushed to August 4th. The new ambulance contract will take effect January 1, 2015.

911 COMMUNICATIONS

Five Companies Respond to Radio System RFP

The 5 proposals submitted to the County’s request for a replacement communications system for the aging 800 MHz emergency radio system are now being reviewed by the consultant and the review committees. Motorola, Harris, and Tate were the respondents that submitted proposals for the entire system including subscriber (radio) units and the system backbone. Two other companies submitted proposals for just subscriber units and/or the system backbone. Evaluation committees will have their recommendations to the CRESA Board by the end of July.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH and PUBLIC EDUCATION

Ten (10) Replacement AEDs Secured

The District was successful in securing 10 Automatic External Defibrillators through Public Safety Education Committee (PSEC) funds. The units will be placed on fire apparatus and staff vehicles and will replace aging and out-of-date units.The grant totaled $13,500.
