REGISTRATION:

In order to register in the Consular Registry of the Consulate, you must submit the following documentation (original and photocopy):
•Valid Spanish passport
•National Identity Document (D.N.I.)
•Two passport size photographs
•Birth certificate of the Spanish Civil Registry, for those born outside Spain.
•Registration form as Resident or Non Resident
To register as RESIDENT, you will also have to submit the following (original and photocopy):
•A document proving your residence status in Australia (residence permit, work permit, study permit, etc.).
If none of the above is possible, you will then be registered asNON RESIDENT, until you provide us with one of the above-mentioned documents.
•Family register book or marriage certificate
•Certified True Copy of the birth certificate of the Spanish Civil Registry
•Those over 18 years of age will be provided with a registration form in the Census of Absent Spanish Residents (CERA) which they must complete in order to vote in Spanish elections.

Consular procedures in Canberra:

The General Consulate of Spain in Canberra carries out the consular procedures of the residents in its consular jurisdiction. If you reside in another jurisdiction, you must contact the Consular Office of your place of residence.

The consular jurisdiction of the Spanish Consulate General in Canberra covers the ACT and Queanbeyan.

Consular Registration.

Registering and removal from the consular list:
Spanish citizens residing in the ACT and Queanbeyan jurisdiction may contact this Consulate Section in order to register in the Consular Registry.
Spanish citizens who have temporarily moved their place of residence to this consular jurisdiction and plan to stay for less than one year period, may register as NON RESIDENTS.

Spanish citizens who establish their place of residence in this consular jurisdiction for an indefinite period of time or for over a year may register as RESIDENTS in the Consular Registry.

Spanish citizens registered as Residents in the Consular Registry shall be automatically registered in the “Padrón de Españoles Residentes en el Extranjero” (PERE) (Official Census Record of Spanish Residents Abroad) as well as in the ”Censo de Españoles Residentes Ausentes” (CERA) (Census of Absent Spanish Residents):

•The Official Census Record of Spanish Residents Abroad (PERE) is the registration in the official census of all Spaniards residing abroad, including minors; it is the complement of the municipal census, so that all Spanish citizens are registered in the census, whether in municipal government registries or in the PERE if they live abroad.

•The Census of Absent Spanish Residents (CERA) includes all those registered as residents who are over 18 years of age. In order to exercise their right to vote in Spanish elections, Spanish citizens must be registered in this Registry. It is recommended to all residents over 18 years of age consult the electoral lists at the Consular Section during election periods to verify that their data is accurate. If it is not, Spanish citizens may submit a claim before the Consulate who will forward it to the corresponding Electoral Census Office, within the legal deadlines provided for, so that they may be included correctly in the CERA and, therefore, be able to vote in this consular jurisdiction.

BIRTH REGISTRATION
In order to register the birth of a son or daughter in the Consular Civil Registry, the said birth must have taken place within theACT and Queanbeyanconsular jurisdiction, the person born must be under 21 years of age and one of his or her parents must have Spanish citizenship.
From the age of 18 on, this registration must be made personally by the applicant who must complete the Data Declaratory Form as “interesado” (person concerned) and present the following documentation at the Consulate (original and photocopy):
1. Local birth certificate (Certified True Copy of Birth Registration).
2. Parents’ family book, if applicable.
3. Certified True Copy of the parents’ marriage certificate, if applicable.
4. Certified True Copy of the birth certificate of the Civil Register of the Spanish Consulate where the parents’ birth is registered.
5. Birth certificate of the foreign parent.
6. Parents’ passports.
7. Application for birth registration duly completed, available at the Consular Office. Birth registration form.pdf NOTE: All above-mentioned documents must be ORIGINAL.

MARRIAGE REGISTRATION
It is advisable that the Spanish spouse be registered in the Consular Registry before proceeding to register the marriage. Registration can be done provided the marriage took place within the ACT and Queanbeyan consular jurisdiction, by submitting the following documentation (original and photocopy):
1. Local marriage certificate (Certified True Copy of Marriage Registration form).
2. An up-to-date Certified True Copy of the Spanish spouse’s birth.
3. Birth certificate of the foreign spouse.
4. Valid passports of both spouses.
5. National Identity Document of the Spanish spouse/s.
6. If one of the spouses is divorced:
1. Divorce certificate for the foreign spouse.
2. For the Spanish spouse, if the marriage is registered in the Spanish Civil Registry and the divorce took place abroad, the latter will not be valid unless is recognized in Spain through an Exequatur process, executed by a lawyer in Spain.
7. Sworn declaration of civil status prior to the marriage, available at the Consular Section.

NOTE: The above-mentioned documents must be ORIGINAL.
Once the marriage is registered, the applicants will be given a Family Register Book.

DEATH REGISTRATION
In order to register the death of a Spanish citizen, the event must have taken place within theACT and Queanbeyan consular jurisdiction. The registration may be carried out by the spouse, children, relatives or friends, by submitting the following documentation at the Consulate (original and photocopy):

1. Local death certificate (Certified True Copy of Death Registration).
2. Literal copy of birth certificate of the deceased.
3. Family register book of the deceased.
4.Application for death registration duly completed, available at the Consular Office.
