Bienvenidos a Spanish II A with Señora Swartz. I am thrilled you have chosen to continue your Spanish education in my classroom. I have been teaching Spanish for over twenty-five years and have lived, traveled and studied in many Spanish speaking countries. I am excited to share my experiences with you as your continue your Spanish journey.

Our class will focus on speaking, reading, writing and listening comprehension in the target language. Please be prepared to learn EVERY DAY in our class. It is important that we work together to keep you on task, keep you focused and keep you learning Spanish! Please check my web page each week for assignments and topics.

My expectations of you:

  1. Be in your seat with the tardy bell rings
  2. Be prepared
  3. Be respectful
  4. Electronic devises, food or beverages with permission only
  5. All school rules as outlined in the student handbook are to be followed

If you choose not to follow my expectations, I will give you:

  1. A warning
  2. A phone call home
  3. A referral to the office with a phone call home

Please bring the following materials to call EVERY DAY

  1. A 3 ring binder
  2. Paper
  3. Pencil or pen

Study time:

  1. Please be prepared to spend at least 20 minutes 3 times a week at home on your Spanish.
  2. Teacher time will be offered daily or as needed by students. Please speak with me about your schedule and we will work out a study time.

Grading:

  1. Assignments will be divided into the following categories:
  2. Class work
  3. Homework
  4. Tests & Quizzes
  5. Oral comprehension

All grades are points based on a scale of 0-100. All categories have equal value.

  1. Current Events:
  2. Students will receive a Current Event grade each week. Current events must be “current” to that week. Students must bring a print copy or email the current event and must write a summarization of the event. This summarization will be given to the class and will be part of the 10 point grade. 10 current events will be due each trimester and each are worth 10 points for a total of 100 points. Current events will fall into the homework category.

Extra Credit:

Limited extra credit opportunities MAY be given during the trimester. DO NOT ask for extra credit opportunities, they will be provided to you if I feel they will add value to the unit of study.

The following items may be donated to the classroom for 5 extra credit points each for a total of 25 extra credit points. These items must be turned in by Monday, August 14, 2017. Clorox or Lysol wipes, standard size index cards (packages of 100), paper towels, Kleenex, Ticonderoga #2 pencils, Expo Dry Erase Markers
