GC Tooth Mousse neutralises acids and reduces the risk of caries

Revolution in prevention: “Fluid enamel” from milk proteins that protects and tastes good

The latest generation of active caries protection: saliva-stimulating, enforcing natural remineralisation and simply tasty – the mineral balance in the mouth can be restored in a few minutes with the new GC Tooth Mousse. Whether for hypersensitivity cases, following dental or orthodontic treatments or for patients with problems of saliva production: thanks to its revolutionary active ingredient Recaldent™, which is derived from the milk protein casein, the novel tooth-protection cream from GC EUROPE marks an entirely new and modern approach to prevention: “minimal intervention” for maximum caries protection!

It has been known for many years that milk and its derivatives have a protective effect on the teeth. At the AustralianUniversity of Melbourne, it was discovered that this protective effect is made possible by one part of the casein protein – to be precise, the casein phosphopeptide, CCP for short. Its special characteristic is that it holds calcium phosphate, which is necessary for natural remineralisation of tooth enamel and is normally insoluble, in an amorphous, non-crystalline state (ACP).

Mineral balance achieved by CPP-ACP Recaldent™

The CPP-ACP* complex contained in Recaldent™** is hence an ideal system for transporting free calcium and phosphate ions – and GC Tooth Mousse is the world’s first product for professional use in the dental practice that contains this novel active ingredient.

Once the water-based cream from the Dental Care Company is placed in the mouth, the stable CPP portion attaches to enamel, plaque, bacteria, hydroxyapatite and soft tissue and thus delivers bioavailable calcium phosphate. The free calcium and phosphate ions dissolve out of the complex and penetrate the enamel prisms where they change into apatite crystals. Like “fluid enamel” GC Tooth Mousse replenishes the mineral stores in enamel – for naturally safe protection against enamel lesions.

All-round protection that tastes good and does you good

Recaldent™ has other advantages as well: for instance, incorporation of CCP into the saliva reduces the adhesiveness of some caries bacteria. At the same time, the aromatic, sugar-free cream stimulates salivation and thereby improves or complements the remineralising and neutralising effects of saliva. Another plus point: current studies at MelbourneUniversity have shown that the opacity of new white spots caused by decalcification can be visibly reduced by the application of CPP-ACP to the tooth surface and the white spots or initial caries are stopped or even healed. After various dental treatments, GC Tooth Mousse can reduce any additional hypersensitivity because the researchers also found out that the calcium and phosphate ions re-close the opened dentinal tubules.

Easy to use – versatile in its effects

Because of its broad spectrum of action and virtually unlimited usability, the new tooth-protection cream from GC EUROPE can be used for all patients – from infants through to senior citizens – in every situation. Ideally the dentist should spread the product onto the tooth surface with a swab, glove or interdental brush and leave it in the mouth for two to five minutes (depending on the clinical situation). The longer GC Tooth Mousse stays in the mouth, the more sustained the treatment outcome. People who are allergic to milk proteins are the only exceptions and should not use the product.

Ideal indications for the cream: immediately after bleaching, after ultrasonic or manual tooth-cleaning, root cleaning or curettage and after external fluoride application. It is equally suitable as surface protection for patients with erosion, xerostomia or Sjögren’s syndrome and for patients at high-risk of caries or with limited oral hygiene capacity. The product can also be given to patients for use at home in order to improve compliance or as an incentive to individual preventive action.

Entering into fresh dialogue about prevention

Bart Dopheide, Director of Product Development at GC EUROPE explains, “GC Tooth Mousse is part of our new, forward-looking ‘minimal intervention’ approach. With the caries-protective cream we not only want to offer dentists a modern product for prevention, but we also want to give them an opportunity of presenting their services and their focus on preventive dentistry to patients. GC Tooth Mousse helps to persuade patients of the need for prevention in a straightforward and believable way. They feel the difference at once: their teeth feel fresher, cleaner and smoother!”

GC Tooth Mousse comes in five flavours: melon, strawberry, tutti-frutti, mint and vanilla. One pack of the new range contains ten 40 g tubes (two of each flavour).
