Introduction

This document explains how to install a USB cutter in EasySIGN SP5.0.12 and newer. With these steps, it couldn’t have been easier.

Prerequisites:

- EasySIGN SP5.0.12 or newer.

- One of the following Operating Systems:

Windows 2000-SP4,
Windows XP-SP3 (32-bit),
Windows Vista-SP1 (32 or 64-bit)

Please note that these Operating Systems were compatible when EasySIGN SP5.0.12 was released. This compatibility might change once new Operating Systems are released.

Although EasySIGN is compatible with 64-bit Windows XP and Vista, there’s no guarantee that the hardware drivers for your cutter can be installed on 64-bit Windows.

Step 1: Hardware driver installation:

Always start with installing the hardware driver that has been supplied with the cutter. If you don’t succeed in finding/installing this driver, please consult the user manual or contact the manufacturer.

Some devices need to be connected prior to installing the driver, others require the driver to be installed prior to connecting the device. Please consult the user manual or the manufacturer for the correct installation order.

After a successful installation, a new Windows Printer or a new USB device has been added to your computer. If possible write down the name of the installed printer or USB device. You might need it during Step 2: ‘EasySIGN software driver installation’.

Printer Name:______(Open Windows Control Panel, Printers and Faxes).

USB Device name:______(Open the Windows Device Manager)

Step 2: EasySIGN software driver installation:

The second step in this process describes how to add a driver in EasySIGN for your cutter device. If you haven’t already done so, please download and install EasySIGN SP5.0.12 (or newer) from the EasySIGN website.

Are you still working with an older version of EasySIGN? Please note that you cannot update a Version 4.5 or older by installing a Version 5 Service Pack. Please contact you EasySIGN reseller for an update offer.

Once your software is up-to-date, you can add the software driver for your device.

Step 2.1 Switch on the USB device:

To be absolutely sure that the device can be detected by EasySIGN, please switch the power on.

Step 2.2 Start EasySIGN and add the driver:

If you haven’t already done so, please start EasySIGN and execute “File, Device Setup, ‘Add plotter’ wizard…”.

This wizards starts with collecting the available drivers

Once collected, please select your device from the list:

The ‘Use Windows Spooler’ setting:

In previous EasySIGN versions, communication with certain USB cutters was only possible after switching on the ‘Use Windows spooler’ setting in the EasySIGN Production Manager. New developments inside SP5.0.12 made it possible to communicate with these cutters without having to switch this setting on.

One last note about USB cutters.

There are three types of devices:
