B.Job Summary:
Under the general direction of the First Nation Education Commission (FNEC) and reporting to theEducation Directorof CYFN, this position is responsible to work with the FNEC, Education Director and Education Coordinatorwith regards to achieving the mandate of the FNEC. The position will be the primary position responsible for meeting the needs to the FNEC. This position will complete background research and formulate briefing notes for the FNEC, as well as coordinate projects under the FNEC.
Main Duties
Preparing briefing notes, progressreports and responding to correspondence as may be required.
Coordinating FNEC projects with the goal of meeting the mandate of the FNEC.
Researching topics and formulating proposals.
Supporting First Nations Education Departments and with building capacity in First Nations education.
Coordinating information and preparing written analytical and technical reports.
Advance discussions on First Nations Education by providing recommendations and/ or advice to the FNEC.
Identify gaps within the Yukon educational system where the FNEC should have a stronger presence and make recommendations withhow to address this.
Responsible for disseminating relevant information as required.
Appling OCAP Principles to all areas of research.
Assist with data collection and analysis.
Collaborating and building partnerships with other stakeholders, research organizations, universities, colleges, governments and others.
Disseminate information relevant to education from education stakeholders in the Yukon as approved.
Provide regular updates and reports to FNEC and CYFN as requested.
Performing other related duties.
C.Knowledge and Skills
Education:A degree in education or other relevant field, or equivalent in education and work experience will also be considered.
Experience:
Extensive experience working with Yukon First Nations and in the area of education
Excellent analytical abilities,
Public speaking skills would be an asset,
Demonstrated superb writing, research and computer skills,
Demonstrated emotional intelligence, including the ability to think and interact
strategically and innovatively while exercising sound judgment,
Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Yukon First Nation education
issues,
Demonstrated knowledge of First Nation government systems and issues,
Knowledge of the Umbrella Final Agreement, First Nations Final and Self-
Government Agreements in relation to education,
Ability to set priorities and organize own work and accomplish tasks and projects
with minimal direction and supervision,
Ability to work well in a group as well as carry out individual assignments,
Ability to manage a number of projects simultaneously,
Experience researching and writing succinct communication materials
Ability to handle multiple projects concurrently

D.Decision-making
Independent Judgment:The position makes judgments when planning and coordinating research and other education related activities. These judgments are made within established procedures and according to set objectives. Alternatives of selection are used within these processes.
Problem Solving:Position is responsible for recommending solutions to problems when planning and coordinating research and information dissemination, in the preparation of briefing and decision document.
- Impact of Accountability
This position is responsible for the effectiveness of day to day operations with respect to the education work FNEC is involved in. Errors are easy to trace, but could have an impact on the organization.
F. Working Conditions
The position is located in a normal office environment and is occasionally required to travel. Some overtime may be encountered. Discomfort is produced through fifty+ percent of the time on the computer. Position is responsible for working with people of different cultures and values. There may be frequent interruptions, irregular critical deadlines, and occasional interactions with individuals experiencing significant levels of stress, a requirement to adjust priorities, resolve conflicts and adjudicate disputes.
