Job Description

HOME, New Orleans?(HNO) is a community-based, arts-focused network of organizations, universities, artists, and neighbors that brings communities together to create positive change in New Orleans. A direct result of the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina, HOME, NewOrleans? responds to community priorities through neighborhood and community arts projects, memorials, youth theatre workshops, performances, and other forms of creative expression that enhance life and create new opportunities to rebuild community for New Orleans and its residents. HOME,New Orleans? is guided by the principle that creative expression is a tool for shaping and strengthening all of our communities. We believe merging art-making, education, and community involvement will produce more powerful opportunities for individuals, neighborhoods, and the city as a whole. Indeed, one of the goals of these projects is cross fertilization among the neighborhoods. HOME, New Orleans? is supported by a grant from the Ford Foundation.

The National Performance Network serves as an intermediary for HNO, providing infrastructure support and capacity building. HNO is led by a volunteer steering committee comprised of artists, community partners, its affiliated neighborhood projects and participating universities.

Overview:

A two-year contract position (annual renewal) providing administrative and programmatic support toHNO affiliated neighborhood projects and the HOME, New Orleans? Steering Committee; and directly responsible to theNPN Chief Operating Officer and designated HOME, New Orleans? Steering Committee members.

Time Commitment:

Commitment of an average 20-25 hours per week is required with the understanding that this may fluctuate from week to week. This contract positionoccasionally requires evening and weekend time. Note: the above time commitment is only intended as a guide,

Responsibilities of the Project Manager:

Administration/Communication/Documentation – (approx. 40% of time)

  • Provide administrative support to HOME, New Orleans?
  • Point person between the HNO Steering Committee and affiliated neighborhoods projects.
  • Point person between the NPN and HNO Steering Committee.
  • Mapping relationships between neighborhood projects, local universities and communities.
  • Responsible for project correspondence written and verbal, maintain documents, emails, form letters, contracts, etc.
  • Manage and organize projects meetings (create agendas, distribute meeting notes, etc)
  • Work within the NPN office structure as appropriate to the project, including participation in staff meetings and planning
  • Support fundraising by assisting with grant-writing and report filing; work with NPN’s development staff on components of fundraising
  • Responsible for narrative and budget reporting as needed for internal and external purposes
  • Provide budget oversight and coordinate payment requests.

Meeting Coordination (approx. 30% of time)

  • Coordinate monthly/bi-monthly meetings of the HNO Steering Committee
  • Coordinate biannual or quarterly meetings with all affiliated project participants
  • Coordinate HNO participation in Transforma Projects and other local/regional/national convenings

Preferred Qualifications of the Project Manager: Knowledge of community based arts and community organizing; ability to manage a complex collaboration; experience working with diverse contemporary artists, organizations (civic andartist-centered) and college students; possesses cross-cultural communication skills and familiarity of cultural immersion in New Orleans; demonstrates interest in performing arts and visual arts;knowledge of contracts, budget management and administrative systems;possesses strong writing skills, grant reporting, and negotiating skills; knowledge of financial record keeping.

Compensation: $24,000
