How to shorten and/or join a drive band for any wheel or spinner.
1. Find the belt joint or look at the area where the drive band snapped a part.
2. Take a pair of sharp scissors, and cut just above or below the joint. If you are repairing a broken band, cut the end off of each piece of band where it was joined. Cut it right at the point of the join.
3. Notice the cut belt.
4. With tape measure or ruler – measure off ¾ of inch. For shortening a band only.
5. Cut off measured amount. If you are repairing a join, as stated earlier, cut each join off of the end of each end of the broken drive band.
6. Take both ends between thumb and forefinger. Notice how the ends are equal to each other.
7. With a lighter, or you can light a candle, heat the ends until they begin to melt.
7. Press the two ends together tightly.
8. Hold together for 15 seconds.
9. Place newly joined ends in cold water to cure only if you are repairing an electric spinner drive band. If you are repairing or shortening a drive band that is attached to a wheel, forgo this step and lay the newly made join down, on top of the front or rear maiden and let it cure longer.
10. New join shown.
11. Now take a pair of sharp clippers. I prefer large nail clippers, and trim the excess urethane material away from the new join. Try to make the new join area as smooth as possible. This will cut way down on the white dust material made from the drive band, while spinning, especially seen on the electric spinners. Just do the best you can. It can not be nor will be perfect. It doesn’t have to be perfect for it to be used well.
12. Now your drive band has been shorten and/or rejoined and you are ready to begin spinning again. :o)
