NRHH: 9:08 PM

Not a lot to report because they weren’t here for Thanksgiving, and it’s hard to plan stuff when we’re not here.

The website for Dance Marathon is live! Register to make a team and start fundraising! Some of you already did this, so keep up the good work!

SENATE: 9:08 PM

Senator Hemmings is sorry she wasn’t at our last meeting, but she was pulling an all nighter, which is always fun.

They didn’t have a meeting last week because of Thanksgiving.

At their meeting 2 weeks ago, former SA president Justin Holmes came and spoke to them. If you search “Campus Coop” on youtube, it’s a 10 part series that he’s a part of. He fights for students rights. Students have more power than we think we do!

NP grad students were also there and spoke to them about the Green Revolving fund. It’s new and exciting and it will go towards aiding sustainability efforts on campus, like getting us a composting plant. It’s an optional $3 fee that will eventually pay for itself in the end. Idealistically, it will be implemented next semester, but Fall 2016 seems more realistic. It’s an extra $3 for more sustainability. It’s optional, not mandatory.

NYPIRG’s petition to freeze state tuition got 1600 signatures, and they’ll be sending that to Albany. It shows New Paltz’s commitment to affordable education.

Unfortunately, this will be Brenna’s last Senate report for a while. She is studying abroad in Prague next semester, so she won’t be here to give us our Senate report. She says that we have been her favorite committee, and she’s super sad this is her last report. As always, if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact her.

Rui: Can we Skype you?
Brenna: Yes, we can do it at every AC meeting if you want. I’ll give it to you Rui since you seem the most gung-ho about it.

FUNDING REQUEST: 9:12 PM

If you don’t remember what a funding request is like, it’s pretty much a 3 minute presentation that will be given by Andrea followed by a 5 minute question and answer period that is extendable up to 3 times. It ends with a 5 minute discussion and then a vote. Similar to elections and amendments, you can’t use your phone or your vote will be taken away. You only get 2 votes per hall, so it can be your AC reps or any other documented Hall Gov member.

PRESENTATION:

Hi, I’m Andrea and I’m the Senior RA in Crispell Hall! SRA’s are split into different groups under the RD’s. I’m under the judicial team with Amanda Norton from Ridgeview and Shayna from Bevier. My team works with the Culture Advocates in each hall. Who knows who their Culture Advocate is? [Some people raised their hands.] Cool, cool. They’re awesome so get to know them. I’m working with the Culture Advocates from Collango, Bliss, Scudder, and someone else. What hall is RA Anny in? [Capen.] Oh yeah, also Capen. We want to put on a campus wide event and this is why I need money. We’re doing a homelessness awareness program called Fill a Heart. It’s a family outreach program. At the program, we would assemble survival bags/goodie bags for people who are homeless. We want to put toiletries in there, as well as socks, gloves, warmer packets, hand sanitizer, toothpaste and toothbrushes. They need these daily things that we take advantage of. Our budget is only $100, and we want to use this money to buy food for the program so that people will attend. I’m asking for $300-$350 for supplies so we can invite you guys come assemble the packets. It will happen on December 6th at 3pm in Crispell Hall. You’re all invited to come. We’ll have a speaker from the family outreach program who will talk about how to become an agent of change for homelessness. Hopefully you guys will help us out with the funding.

Bouton: Where are you shopping to get these items from? Did you figure out the exact prices from a certain store?

-  Andrea: We’re gonna go to ShopRite and the family dollar store; we’re trying to get the cheapest things so we can get a lot of them. Also, the dollar store has really warm socks.

Collango: Where are you asking to get this money from?

-  Andrea: I’m asking for $300-$350 from RHSA.

Bevier: You said the event was in Crispell. Where exactly and how many people are you planning on getting?

-  Andrea: I want to estimate around 40 people.

Crispell: Do you have an estimate on how many kits you want to make?

-  Andrea: Not really. Probably around 40-50 of them.

Bouton: Will you be inviting people to make the kits?

-  Andrea: Yea, we will be buying the supplies, and we’ll invite people to listen to the speaker, eat food, and then assemble the kits.

Scudder: Will this money be going towards the food or the kits?

-  Andrea: We’re buying the food, and this money will go towards buying the items that go into the bags.

Mike: Have you requested money from anywhere else yet?

-  Andrea: No, this is the first place I’ve come to.

Bouton: You gave us a few examples of what you were buying, do you have a definite list?

-  Andrea: Baby wipes, toothbrushes, toothpaste, lip balm, nail clippers, hand warmers, and maybe food like trail mix in a Ziploc bag. Also tissues.

Collango: How do we donate?

-  Ariana: It comes from our budget, that’s what this funding request is for.

Bevier: Which organization will the bags go to?

-  Andrea: All the Culture Advocates are grouped into teams, and I’m looking over a team of them. I’m with the ones from Collango, Bliss, Scudder, and Capen. Also from Bouton, which I left out before.

DISCUSSION:

Lenape: She didn’t really say how much she would need, which makes me feel like they’ll work with whatever we give them which makes it more flexible. Don’t we still have a lot of money in the budget?

-  Alana: We have around $2700 left.

Lenape: The more we give them, the more they can give to others.

Ariana: As a point of information, if they don’t use all of the money, they give the rest back to us so it’s not just floating around out there.

Lenape: She doesn’t know the definite amount because this event is the first of its kind. If it works out and has a good turnout, they can continue this program in the future.

Scudder: Just for them, they should make it a point to also look for outside donations. Different places like Rite Aid, the dentist, and local hotels might give out stuff like free toothpaste if they ask for it.

DuBois: I think we should give them $350 because we’re gonna have a harsh winter, and they don’t have access to a lot of stuff.

Bouton: She’s putting very reasonable and necessary things in the kits, she’s not being wasteful. We do have the money to give them $350 in the budget.

HALL CONCERNS 9:33 PM

None.

STUDENT CONCERNS 9:33 PM

Crispell: You know the big vending machine? I went there to get coffee, and the screen is cracked. I don’t know if this has been brought up recently, but I think we all want it fixed.

-  Ariana: Yea, apparently someone punched the screen, so they’re monitoring it and it’s closed due to damage. Hopefully they’ll fix it soon, we’ll see.

Mike: That little stretch of walkway from Route 32 to Vandenberg doesn’t have any lights, and I’m getting spooked.

Ariana: There’s a walkway by Collango finally! This is the first time I’ve seen one in 4 years.

Crispell: So I know we brought up parking by Ridgeview a few weeks ago. The parking lot next to Southside House, Lot 30, is a Commuter/Staff/Resident parking lot, but I have a feeling that a lot of residents don’t park there because it’s far. Could they like, switch this one and the Ridgeview one? Or they don’t have to switch it, but can they make Ridgeview an overnight lot?

-  Ariana: I talked to Jenn, and she said that she’ll work on it because it doesn’t make any sense that you can’t park overnight in the Ridgeview lot. For now, if you live in Ridgeview, park in the Lenape parking lot because it’s close and no one ever parks there.

OPEN FLOOR: 9:35 PM

Brenna (Senate): Senate elections start tomorrow and go until Thursday, so go vote! Do research on the candidates because you don’t want to be disenfranchised.

Crispell: This Thursday, the A Cappella groups will be having their final holiday performance! We’ll be singing Carol of the Bells, it’ll be really festive and cute. It’s in SUB 62/63 at 9pm! Take note of the time because it’s different from our dorm performance time.

Bouton: This Saturday at 9 is Bouton’s Saturday Night Fever! It’s a holiday party, you can take pictures, I don’t know what else will be there, but I’ll be there so you should come!

Bevier: This Thursday at 7pm in the basement, we’ll be having a program that came from conference. It’ll be like a party situation where you role play about drinking and stuff.

Lenape: Tomorrow at 7:30pm, we’re having a henna night! If you like henna and want someone who’s good at it to do it for you, or you just wanna play with it because you’re not artistic, you should come right here to this lounge!

Collango: This Wednesday at 7pm, we’re watching Star Wars episode 4 because episode 7 is coming out so soon. It’s in the College kitchen, and we’ll have free popcorn and soda.
