Late for School
Tom usually wakes up at quarter to seven during school days but a fortnight ago he overslept. He woke up an hour later because the day before they went to a wedding reception.
Tom had to rush through everything. He jumped out of bed and in a hurry he went to the bathroom. There he washed his face, brushed his teeth and combed his hair. Then, very quickly, he put on his school uniform and went downstairs. His mother prepared his lunch and he threw his copybooks in his satchel. Then he rushed outside to catch the school bus but an old woman told him that he had missed it by ten minutes. There was nothing to do but to go on foot. Seeing that he was very late, he decided to scurry through a grove that was situated in the vicinity of the school, in order to take a short cut.
By the time he arrived at school all the pupils had gone to their classes. He tried to sneak past the headmaster’s office, but unfortunately, the clerk saw him and took him straight to the office. There, the headmaster asked him the reason for having come late and he had to explain. Usually he was very severe with late comers, but as this was his first time, he let him off with a warning. He apologised for being late and went to class.
During the lessons he was looking forward to the break as he had not eaten his breakfast. At last the bell rang and they said the prayer. Everyone was eating except him, because he had left it at home. But what a surprise, his mother came to school and brought him the lunch and the right copybooks he needed.
He felt very miserable that day and he was embarrassed too. Mother warned him that if he would be late again for school, she would punish him too.
