Field Experience/ Impact on Learning Environment & Student Achievement Log

Identify at least five technology related projects that you created and implemented in the field (i.e., your teaching/work environment or another professional arena) as a result of something you learned in the Ed.S. program. These could be projects that you did specifically for an Ed.S. course you have taken, or they could be projects that you did independently (not as part of a course) that required you to use skills that you acquired or improved through your work in the Ed.S. program. Complete the following table based on these projects. An in-progress example is provided on pages 2-3.

Project Name & Link
(hyperlink the name to the project itself) / MEDT Connection
(course that you did this for or that gave you the idea/tools to do the project) / Project Date / Project Description
(WHO the project was done with or for, WHAT the project was, WHERE it was done, WHY the project was done, and HOW you did it) / Project Impact
(What was the outcome of the project? How did you measure or assess this? If this was an instructional project, be sure to include learner impact.)
Henry County Project / MEDT 7472 / April 2010 / This project was completed as a requirement for Dr. Huett’s MEDT 7472 Intro to Distance Education course. While the whole class was assigned a specific online course to evaluate at a middle school in Henry County, I, along with two other classmates was assigned a 6th grade online math course to evaluate. We collaboratively focused on the design, the ease of use, and the content and made recommendations using VoiceThread as a reporting tool / The outcome of this project was a success. My group reported findings and made a few recommendations to improve the online class at the middle school. As a result of reviewing this class, we found that more attention needed to be placed in differentiating instruction, special need students, and the method of delivery of some of the content.
Your Financial Budget / MEDT 7472 / March 2010 / This project was completed as a requirement for Dr. Huett’s MEDT 7472 course that I took in the spring of 2010. As a special education teacher, I was also able to use this project as an additional resource to help my students understand the basic concepts of a budget and to practice creating one. Although the Georgia Standard (SS6E4) suggest that the target audience be a 6th grade social studies group, I was able to use this plan, which encouraged technology use on struggling students in an inclusive 9th grade math class. The project was completed at home and practiced in the 9th grade inclusion class. From a pdf folder with several links, students accessed budget-related electronic articles, watched an instructional video, completed a sample budget, participated in a timed activity using Quizlet, and created a useful budget of their own as a final project. / As the collaborating special education teacher, my caseload students were able to identify vocabulary associated with budgets and participate in practical activities that could possibly serve as a guide for the future. Students were assessed at the end of the lesson by a culminating activity which involved them creating a useful budget of their own using Gliffy. This program assisted with the organization of the budget.
Audacity Instructional Project / MEDT 7468 / November 2009 / This project was created for Dr. Baylen’s MEDT 7468 course that I took in the fall of 2009. In addition, I was able to offer this project as an ongoing tutorial for music students at my school who wanted to record their rehearsals. Although the project was completed at home, it was viewed during band classes. The videos were captured using Hyper Cam 2. / As a result of this project, the band director and students were introduced to the basic elements of recording. They were able to record rehearsals at no cost as long as the software was on the computers. Being able to listen to music recently played, contributed to the overall improvement of some band students. It made them more aware of their mistakes and highlighted things they were doing well.
Glog Project / MEDT 8463 / March 2010 / This project was created for Dr. Huett’s MEDT 8463 course that I took in the spring of 2010. Although I initially created this project to meet the requirements of this course, I also used it as a model for some of my high school special education students on my caseload. Although it was not an official tool of their Individual Educational Plan, I encouraged students to develop a Glog as a transitional plan for after graduation. Students created a personal Glog to visibly map out goals for after graduation. / Students worked collaboratively to complete their Glogs. Although each student needed to complete their own individual Glog, they all assisted each other with additional design items and goals to incorporate in their Glogs. This assignment encouraged students to ownership of their own future and map out a plan for success.
Dailey’s E-Book Project / MEDT 7468 / November 2009 / This project was created for Dr. Baylen’s MEDT 7468 course that I took in the fall of 2009. Although this project was initially designed to meet the requirements of this course, I also allowed my daughter’s teacher to use it in her primary class. This project involved me creating an e-Book. I was reluctant to at first because I had never before created one. I was also inexperienced with creating learning tools for young students. The project consisted of text, audio, images, and other multimedia design concepts. The purpose of my project was to develop an eBook explaining the basic elements of a few sports. The target audience was a 4th grade special education self-contained class, which consisted of several struggling readers. I based the theme of the project around introducing the viewer to a beginner understanding of sports related terminology. The primary objective was to provide a fun opportunity for struggling readers to identify with some of the sports and some of the highlighted heroes of each. / The outcome of this project was a success. Students were engaged, asked questions, and retained the highlighted vocabulary associated with the e-Book. Students often were able to provide a real-life connection with the sports in the e-Book. This project challenged me because it was outside of my comfort zone. Creating children stories had not previously been considered one of my strengths. However, I would say that participation in this project has helped develop my creativity skills.
Therrell High School Band Project / MEDT 7468 / October 2009 / The project was completed as a requirement for Dr. Baylen’s MEDT 7468 course that I took in the fall of 2009. In addition, the final project was used as a resource for the Therrell High School band to show 9th grade prospective members entering high school during their orientation. It will later be utilized by the band director and assistant director as a recruitment tool to introduce middle school students that feed into Therrell as they are visited in the spring prior to entering the upcoming year. The project consisted of interviews from the band director, assistant director, and current band members while they were performing at an event. Short video clips of the interviews were captured using MovieMaker. / The outcome of this project was a success. The band director gladly volunteered his time and some of his students to be interviewed. The director currently features this project as an informal introduction to his recruitment presentation at feeder schools. In preparation for making another project for the upcoming year, the director already has many band members to volunteer to assist with the interview process and perform individual music performances.
