APPLICATION / This unit of competency specifies the skills and knowledge requited to work in the swimming pool and spa serving industry.
It applies to swimming pool and spa technicians and related industry professionals and specialists.
It includes the ability to identify and control workplace risks, to be aware of environmental regulations and employment arrangements that apply to swimming pool and spa technicians.
It covers compliance with legislative requirements and industry and enterprise ethical standards and codes of conduct.
It supports those with limited supervisory responsibilities who perform their routine maintenance duties alone or in a team environment

PERFORMANCE EVIDENCE
A person must demonstrate the ability to safely and competently respond to routine workplace matters in accordance with each of the following aspects of work in the swimming pool and spa servicing industry:
  • identify own work role while working as a swimming pool and spa technician
  • identify and minimise risks involved in working as a swimming pool and spa technician
  • identify industry employment requirements for working as a swimming pool and spa technician
Performance must include:
  • identifying legislative, environmental and regulatory requirements while working as a swimming pool and spa technician
  • identifying ethical practices and codes of conduct while working as a swimming pool and spa technician
  • identifying and assessing risks
  • communicating with supervisors using electronic and paper systems

KNOWLEDGE EVIDENCE
A person demonstrating competency in this unit must have knowledge of:
  • key workplace health and safety requirement (WHS) and relevant environmental relating to working in the swimming pool and spa servicing industry including:

  • Australian Competition and Consumer Commission product safety guidelines for spas and pools
  • Codes of Practices
  • enterprise policies and procedures, including including interpreting work orders and reporting problems
  • safety data sheets (SDS)
  • emergency responses relating to hazardous materials and chemicals
  • selection and use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • processes for risk assessment and controlling risks
  • oorganisational procedures for working in the swimming pool and spa servicing industry, including interpreting work orders and reporting problems and those relating to:

ASSESSMENT CONDITIONS
Assessors must satisfy the requirements for assessors contained in the Standards for Registered Training Organisations.
Assessment of performance must be undertaken in the workplace or in a simulated workplace environment. Tasks are to be performed to the level of proficiency and within the time limits that would be expected in a workplace.
Assessors are responsible for ensuring that candidates have access to current industry-standard:
  • documents, task instructions, safety data sheets (SDS) materials, tools, equipment
