Work Experience Highlights
As a specialist in the Spanish language and Hispanic culture, I have gained experience teaching and promoting to Hispanic people. I have only recently moved to the U.S. for professional growth. The following are examples of my professional communications experience.
- Language Instructor
- Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara—(Jan. 2007-present) Currently employed as a language instructor at UAG’s International Language Center of San Antonio. Teaching English to over 17 adult learners, most of whom have jobs in the San Antonio area.
- Intracom—(Jun. 2006-Jan. 2007) Served in Saltillo, Mexico as a contracted instructor, translator and consultant through Intracom Communication and Training. During this time, gave language classes to employees of the Netherlands-based pharmaceutical company, Fersinsa. Trained and advised Mabe executives on English usage for business letters and marketing.
- English 2000—(Oct. 2005-May 2006) In Saltillo, Mexico, translated and taught business English to executives in various global companies, such as General Electric, Delphi, Mahle, and Magna Powertrain.
- Translator (English-Spanish and Spanish-English)
- While working for English 2000 and Intracom in Mexico, performed a number of real estate translations, such as multimillion dollar lease agreements for the large factories of global companies. Also translated marketing material and pharmaceutical lab processes.
- Currently serving as freelance translator for bi-monthly publication El Hogar Educador, an education periodical published in the USA and throughout Latin America.
- Specific Examples of Language Consulting
- Performed language and P.R. consulting for Mabe, a large appliance manufacturer with strong ties to General Electric. Instructed and advised the Saltillo plant manager on his English grammar and key words in his communications with Mabe of Canada and GE. One of my projects with Mabe was to help prepare the presentation for the October/November 2006 summit between Mabe’s Chairman and a subsidiary CEO of General Electric. The meetings were extremely successful, and resulted in Mabe’s receiving the needed funding to begin the production of a new line of dryers.
- Performed technical interpretation for Mahle’s diesel piston plant in Ramos Arispe, Mexico in 2005. Managed the communication between Mexican, American and German engineers while they programmed a new robotic system in their piston processes. As a result, the robots are now functional, and Mahle’s Mexican production is improving.
Cross-Cultural Non-Profit Activities
Spearheaded the revitalization of the Mexican branch of a non-profit organization called Juventud Cristiana en Acción (JUCA). Served as Coordinator General, in charge of marketing, fundraising, student recruiting and translating the teachers’ manuals from English to Spanish. JUCA is a summer vacation training camp, designed to train gifted teenagers to teach children and become leaders. The first year of revitalization met with large success, training 30 young people, who reached out to over 2,000 children in the cities of Monterrey, Saltillo, and Mexico City.
