Local Coordinator expectations:Use this form to identify the specific training needs that the Coach needs to better understand the issues related to coaching their Advocates or dynamics of the cases. Document the learning outcomes to enhance their ability to advocate in the best interest of the child(ren) and impact case outcomes. If a formal SMC module is already developed, use that module which already has defined learning outcomes; no need to recreate the learning outcomes.

  • When newly Assigned Advocates are assigned to a Coach and/or at Advocate’s case assignment, review the Advocate’s previous case performance, case specific court documents and case permanency plan to identify case related issues that may require additional training for the Coach to assist the Advocate in their role.
  • This assessment should be reviewed and updated as you, or the Coach identifies additional training that the Coach needs during the life of their assigned case and while assisting the Advocate in their role. Coaches identify training needs on training evaluation forms, pre/post skill assessment from Coach pre-service training and through their monthly updates with the Local Coordinator.

Case Review

Considering the cases that the Coach is currently providing coaching support, and reviewing those cases coached in the past, what case issues might be better supported with additional training? Each case has dynamics that may or may not require additional training for the Coach, however attendance with an Advocate at a training that the Advocate needs support on, may increase the Coach’s ability to provide consistent messaging and focus for advocacy efforts.

  • Read through the case files to identify the key elements of the cases with a focus on the impact of those issues on achievement of safety, permanency and well-being for the child.
  • Double-click the box to check off the Case Related Issues and identify any critical issues not on the list.
  • Next, determine if the Coach needs additional training on the issue to better support the advocacy efforts for positive outcomes for the child; identify the learning outcome(s) to enhance or impart a new skill to the advocate. If Coordinator assesses Coach is proficient in understanding and applying advocacy skills to address the case issue, note that no training is required on that topic.
  • In the last two columns, document a schedule of date(s) to deliver the identified training and the actual delivered date.
