The Palmdale Starlings Volleyball Club is seeking sponsors to help fund our 2012 season, culminating in the National Championships in San Diego in late June.

Beginning with a single inner city San Diego team in 1996, the Starlings Non-Profit Organization has become the largest nationwide Junior Volleyball Club, serving more than 3,000 girls in 47 clubs across America. Clubs stretch from New York City to Los Angeles. The guiding concept has been to provide an opportunity for girls, ages 10 to 18, to participate regardless of their socioeconomic background or geographic location. No girl is turned away due to inability to pay.

The Starlings philosophy is simple. Girls who participate in sports:

  • are 92% less likely to get involved with drugs
  • are 80% less likely to have an unwanted pregnancy
  • are three times more likely to graduate from high school .

To date, more than 99% of the high school seniors in Starlings programs have graduated from high school. Of these, more than 80% enrolled in college and more than half of the college bound Starlings received partial or full scholarships. Since 1996, over 250 full and nearly 600 partial scholarships have been awarded to Starlings from universities including: Kansas State, Clark-Atlanta University, Virginia State University, Long Island University, Morgan State University, Howard University, Jackson State, Florida A&M, Grambling State University, UC Riverside, UCLA, Hampton University, and San Diego Christian College.

Since each Starlings Club is financially self-sustaining, local fund raising is required on an ongoing basis. Teams which want to attend the annual Starlings National Championships have to raise much of their own funding to pay for the trip. Car washes,sales of advertising space on a monthly flyer, and aServe-A-Thon are activities ourPalmdaleStarlings Clubwill be organizing in order to have the chance to play in the Nationals. The National Championships, held in San Diego, have steadily expanded. In 2009 the four-day event drew 141 teams and 1,500 girls from over 34 cities. This will be the first trip for Palmdale Starlings 16’s and 18’s Team to compete in Starlings Nationals in San Diego.

The cost for each girl to play this year is $850 for 12u-16u or $1200 for 18u, which covers a jersey and spandex, tournament fees, and assistant coach’s fees, equipment, insurance, and gas for coaches.
