Course Objective: To provide students with an opportunity to learn and apply skills relating to various agricultural mechanics fields

Course Descriptions: Per TEKS: §130.22. (Metal Technologies)

(a)General requirements. This course is recommended for students in Grades 11-12 who have completed Welding I.

(b)Advanced Welding builds on knowledge and skills developed in Welding I. Students will develop advanced welding concepts and skills as they relate to personal and career development. This course integrates academic and technical knowledge and skills. Students will have opportunities to reinforce, apply, and transfer knowledge and skills to a variety of settings and problems.

Course Expectations: Students are expected to actively participate in the learning process both in and out of the classroom. Knowledge gained in the classroom will be mastered before students will have an opportunity to apply that knowledge in the shop setting.

Attendance: The attendance policy will reflect the policy of Wimberley HS. Students should be in the classroom and ready to begin when the tardy bell rings. Students are required to bring and wear appropriate clothing for certain outdoor and shop activities.

Course Pre-requisite: Students must have first completed the Agricultural Mechanics and Metal Technologies Welding I course to be enrolled in Welding II.

Course Fees: There will be a $20.00 per student course fee for the Ag Mechanics Metal Technologies Welding I and Welding II classes. This will be used to purchase metal, consumables for the shop, and equipment for the students to operate while in the shop. The student will need to bring either cash,check, or make payment through the district webstore to be able to participate in the shop activities for the class assignments.

Course Requirements: All students MUST have the following Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) before they will be allowed to work in the shop.

  • Closed toed shoes – Boots are best!
  • Long pants/Jeans
  • Long sleeve shirt
  • Welding Helmet
  • Safety Glasses
  • Welding Gloves

**Welding helmet, gloves, and safety glasses are provided for each student, however students are welcome to purchase their own equipment.**

—Students will be assigned lockers to store their belongings. **

Safety: All students enrolled in Welding 2 must have obtained their OSHA 10hr certification. Any student without the OSHA 10hr certification will be required to complete prior to entering the shop. Any student caught violating the safety rules will be permanently removed from the shop.

Materials:The textbooks will be provided for the students. They will need to bring notebook, pencil, pen, paper, or something to take notes with.

Grading Criteria:

Major Grades (Tests, Projects, Notebook, SAEP)...... 60%

Daily Grades (Class work, Homework, Participation, Record book) ...... 40%

**Work not turned in by the due date will receive a maximum grade of a 70 if turned in one class period late. Work turned in two class periods late will receive a maximum grade of a 50, and late work will not be accepted after two class periods.

**Students are responsible for getting any make-up work missed.

Assignments/Quizzes/Tests: There will be various tests, quizzes, and

assignments throughout the year both classroom and shop related that the students will be graded on. Students who wish to participate in the Ag. Mechanics shows can do so at their own expense for materials. The students will have to bring cash or a check to purchase the metal for their larger metal projects. If they choose not to purchase metal then they will be asked to work on projects for the school, chapter, or community. Discipline: Students are expected to complete all assignments, participate in all required class activities, and observe all classroom and outdoor rules. Students who do not follow rules will face consequences. Disrespect of classroom or shop/outdoor materials, classmates, and staff will not be tolerated. All Wimberley HS rules and procedures will be enforced.
