A SENATE RESOLUTION
TO COMMEND MR. ROBERT W. JOHNS, DIRECTOR OF MARKETING FOR NUCOR STEEL CORPORATION, ON HIS DISTINGUISHED CAREER SERVING THE MEN AND WOMEN OF NUCOR STEEL, AND TO COMMEND HIM FOR HIS UNWAVERING ADVOCACY AND BELIEF IN THE AMERICAN MANUFACTURING SECTOR, AND TO EXTEND TO HIM EVERY BEST WISH FOR A HAPPY AND ENJOYABLE RETIREMENT.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate have learned that Mr. Robert W. Johns will be retiring as Director of Marketing for Nucor Steel’s Sheet Mill Group after serving in the steel industry for over forty years; and
Whereas, Mr. Johns is a graduate of the University of Illinois, where he well represented his school as a star member of a nationally recognized golf team; and
Whereas, immediately following his graduation from the University of Illinois, Bob Johns began his illustrious career in the steel industry with Bethlehem Steel and rose through the ranks to serve as Director of Outside Services; and
Whereas, after leaving Bethlehem Steel, he started with the steel company pioneered in South Carolina, Nucor Steel, and was instrumental in developing and bringing online Nucor Steel Yamato in Blytheville, Arkansas, the largest mill in Nucor’s inventory and the largest structural steel mill in the Western Hemisphere; and
Whereas, Bob Johns has distinguished himself as a leader in the sales and production of steel in a volatile time for the industry and is also known throughout the steel industry and the manufacturing sector as a selfless advocate of fair trade and the American manufacturer. He has dedicated his time to educating our nation’s leaders and the citizens of numerous communities on the dangers of unfair trade practices and the demoralizing effects of currency manipulation on domestic manufacturers; and
Whereas, his zeal and passion on behalf of the working families in the Carolinas as an industry expert has helped provide for a stronger work environment; and
Whereas, a devoted family man, Mr. Johns shares a loving marriage with his wife, Margie, and adores his wonderful children, Kim and Rob; and
Whereas, Mr. Johns is not only known for his superior business acumen, but also for his passion for barbershop music and golf; and
Whereas, on behalf of the citizens of the State of South Carolina, the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, publicly recognize and thank Mr. Robert W. Johns for a notable career and for his many and varied contributions to our State and nation upon the occasion of his retirement. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the Senate of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, commend Mr. Robert W. Johns, Director of Marketing for Nucor Steel Corporation, on his distinguished career serving the men and women of Nucor Steel, and commend him for his unwavering advocacy and belief in the American manufacturing sector, and extend to him every best wish for a happy and enjoyable retirement.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Robert W. Johns.
